More Government Over-reach. Flavor Bans Starting To Hit Vape Juices

in #blog5 years ago

I'm a new vaper, being just over a month into this new hobby/addiction/way of life. Since I was smoking cigarettes previously, I was initially drawn to tobacco flavors for my juice. Now I've started to get away from that and I find myself looking towards the flavors such as fruits, cereals, and cremes.

I may not have that opportunity for long.

Back in June of 2018, the city of San Francisco enacted a ban of all flavored "tobacco products". This includes menthol cigarettes, sheesha tobacco for hookahs, dipping tobacco, and somehow, vape juice.

The idea behind this ban is that supposedly these flavors attract minors to start smoking. Instead of taking a pragmatic approach, the city decided that pure prohibition is the way to go.

"Well, that's just communist California", you might say.

It now looks like other major cities will follow suit.

New York is considering a Full Ban of flavored e-liquids sponsored by former republican senator Kemp Hannon.

This is not a democrat or republican issue, it's a government over-reach issue. It's sickening to see these bans come down when it's been proven to be more effective than any other method to help people quit smoking.

While I doubt the controlling class of the government is going to turn away from this new boogey-man, we are fortunate that it was announced that Scott Gottlieb will be stepping down as head of the FDA.

He has been VERY aggressive in spear-heading anti-tobacco measures, but for the time being, had given e-cigarettes a chance to prove they were less harmful before a ban would occur.

Hopefully, we can get someone in there that understand the research that is coming out, that vaping is less harmful than smoking and is NOT tobacco in any way shape or form.

These flavors don't "appeal to minors" any more than your cotton-candy flavored vodka does. Which is to say, about the same. The only difference is that alcohol has a nice fat lobbying component to the industry, where vaping does not.

It's shameful to think that this may be banned as I have personally experienced the effects of vaping to stop smoking.

Fortunately, even if a ban comes through, I still have a way around it, which I'll go over in a future post.

What do you think?

Are flavor bans a good idea? Is this me over reacting? Do I not play the meanest trangle out there?

Cuz only kids like flavors. Old people just like the flavor of moth balls and cigarettes.

Quite a few kids have started vaping...or tried it. But, not so ironically, the number trying smoking is down just as much as those trying vaping.

So, yeah, technically someone can try vaping and get hooked on nicotine, then switch to smoking because it's easier to get cigarettes...but who's fault is that?

Nicotine free vape liquid is just vegetable glycerine, propolene glycol and natural flavoring. These things are in literally everything we eat or drink these days, unless they're in the produce department. There is no reason they should be restricted. If those stupid kids that try vaping end up getting addicted to nicotine because they used liquid with nicotine, then they should be allowed to switch to zero nic liquid...except for some reason they restrict that like if it had something in it.

The solution, which I guarantee people will do, is to not market it like eliquid. There are tons of flavorings out there that could technically be vaped if simply diluted. What's stopping people from doing the same with eliquid? Just add your own nicotine.

Or you can make your own eliquid.

That's crazy dude. While vaping companies usually actively promote that they are not meant to be used as a means of smoking cessation, I also quit smoking by making the switch to a vape last year. I never really understood how this was more of an issue than say like, under-age drinking (which is worse of an issue IMO). And yet I don't see anyone going around banning Smirnoff Ice's and Mike's Hard's because they're the drink of choice at high school parties lol.

Not that I think one issue should prevent pro-activity on another, but just making the point that it seems like an under-thought/futile move on their part.

I agree that under-age drinking is more of an issue, I am still baffled by this shotgun approach to one industry and not the other.
