HOW TO PRONOUNCE CERTAIN CONSONANT LETTERS

Lets continue this previous post on pronunciation. Some commonly used English words in which certain consonant letters are silent are listed below:

It is silent before 'n' at the beginning of word:

gnarl
gnomic
gnome
gnat
gnash
gnu

It is silent before 'n' at the end of a word:

align
campaign
feign
resign
assign
champagne
foreign
sign
benign
consign
malign
sovereign

It is always silent in "Kh" and "rh"

Whaki
Khan
Khartoum
Rhetorie
Rheumatism
Rhinoceros
Rhubarb
Rhyme
Rhythm
Catarrh
Rhine
Rhodesia

When 'g' occurs at a syllable boundary in the middle of a word, it is usually pronounced:

diagnosis
ignoble
magnify
recognize
dignity
ignorant
magnificent
signal
ignite
magnet
repugnant
stagnant
