The moment you know you're getting old.

in #blog4 years ago

I will always remember my father saying "You can come back when I am over 65 years old", with that he meant that whenever we wanted to have a friendly fight with him, just to play, he would master us until he would reach the age of 65+. Of course that wasn't the case, we knew that, he knew that but we always were a bit scared of him because you never knew when he would try to hit you... (all in a playful way).

No I am a bit older too, having two suns and romp with them every now and then I am noticing they are getting stronger too...And I am getting older.

This is me after a hour boxing with my youngest... Totally wasted... Although it's good for fluid loss.:)

As some of you might know from previous posts we follow a parent-kids boxing training. It is boxing but with the focus on pleasure with your kid. And I must say, besides the heavy training, it is really fun. Me and my son both enjoy it very much and it is real quality time.

It's great to see how easy it is for my son while dad gasps :)... It's less fun when we drive back home and he is laughing at me because I am soaking wet and completely wasted... :)
The day after I feel muscles I didn't even knew I had.

That feeling, my body and the muscle pain the next day does realize I am getting older.. But I enjoy it very much doing so. The same with going to concerts together with my kids, there is nothing like a good quality time together. And I truely hope that when they are older themselves, the think about these moments...spending time with their dad... I am sure they wil and that they will do the same with their kids.... Or better, that Grandpa spent the same quality time with his grand-kids.

Sometimes I think about my own youth, my parents weren't bad but I did miss a lot in my youth and encountered stuff which perhaps wasn't the optimal for a teenager. Still I do think that a lot of my values I got from my parents, even with the trouble I had with them.

I broke with my parents after the birth of my oldest son. we had a troubled relation but I could manage that. When my oldest was born and my parents still weren't understanding towards us I decided to break with them permanent, my motivation was that I wouldn't let my son suffer from a grandma and granddad who were selfish and only could be nice when they felt to it. So I made the choice... It was hard, for sure, but for the best...for my kids...

The only thing about that where I still have problems with every now and then is that they (my kids) had only one grandfather and grandmother in their life and those where my parents in law... And of course it's common that kids have two grandfathers and mothers... But it seems that I had more of a problem with that then they did ;)..

Yep.....I am getting old...

Have a great evening,

Peter

Welcome to the 'I don't feel old, but my body disagree with me.' club.

It's great seeing father and son working out. I am sorry to hear you didn't bond well with your parents. These things happen. That is life. As long as you feel you are doing what is best, that is the important thing.

Thank you @quotes-haven , I do feel that we have made the right choiche and what's best for me, my wife and kids... So for that matter it is good... Although deep down inside you always wanted different.. But it was not my choice to make...

Yes, I understand. We all want the best for everybody. But sometimes, that is not possible. 😊

It sounds like you made the best decision you could for your family. I don't think I would even be able to go 15 minutes boxing so at an hour you are doing better than me!

Thanks @bozz, I am sure that we have made the right choice. Since then I live by the principal : We (me,my wife and kids) decide who becomes a part of our life, not the other way around ;)

Think how much this is keeping you in shape. Old in name only! :0D

lol....that's true :)

I thought mine were keeping me fit just now and the oldest is only 6!

Well, prepare yourself.....it's getting worse lol !!!

Love posts like this. Not only is it quality bonding time but you are teaching him to be self reliant.
