Easy Ways To Plan Your Next Blog Content

in #blog6 years ago (edited)

When it comes to blogging, many insist that "content is king." Indeed, content drives blogs and brings readers back day after day.

However, many bloggers encounter a bloggers' block, much like writers' block, that keep them from posting regularly or even posting at all once the newness of the blog fades.

The key to preventing bloggers' block is developing a content plan that will help you schedule and produce regular content for your blog.

Brainstorm

Use this step to think of and write down every possible blog idea that deals with your blog topic. If you blog is new, look at similar blogs. If your blog has be publishing for a while, look at your own archives in addition to other blogs.

Keep an on going idea file to help with future brainstorming sessions.

Categorize Post Ideas

Put your ideas into categories. For example, if you are blogging about the craft blogging your might have categories such as News, Blogging Tools, Tips, Interviews, Reader Questions, etc.

After you've put your ideas into categories, try to think of categories that might be missing or posts that might be missing in each category.

Expand Ideas

Take another look at your idea list to see if any of them can be expanded. Going back to the blog about blogging example, you might have a post idea called "Best Bloggers." Instead of limiting yourself to one list post about great bloggers, try creating a weekly or monthly feature about the best bloggers around.

Some ideas might not live up to a regular feature, but they could make a great series. You can create a four week series on "How To Brainstorm Blog Ideas."

Create A Posting Schedule

Once you have established weekly or monthly features, possible series ideas, and a few months of post ideas, layout a weekly plan and a long-term editorial calendar. Determine how many times a week you want to post and which days.

A regular weekly schedule will not only give your readers a routine, but it will also give you consistent deadlines to follow. The schedule does not have to be complicated. A simple list of upcoming posts and weekly features will work.

Always Work Ahead Of Time

Most publications work on a lead time, meaning they have their content done days, weeks or months ahead. Some posts and some entire blogs rely on up-to-the-minute updates, but many posts can be written in advance. By working ahead you avoid last minute emergencies.

You can schedule your posts to publish at set times, and you can write several posts at once instead of making time to blog everyday or throughout the day.

The key to a successful blog is consistent content with consistent quality. A blogging plan makes it easier to produce quality content on a regular basis by keeping bloggers' block a bay and giving you deadlines to meet.

For continued success, keep a file of ideas and continue to plan and develop content as your blog grows. The following articles have more information on blog content planning
