Reddit Asks: Growing Followers on Twitter?? Traffic and Networking??

Anyway, what have people's experiences been on Twitter? Is mine unique? Does it drive traffic? How have you grown your followers?
My Response
For me Twitter does drive traffic to my blogs. I have over 1,400 followers (https://twitter.com/eliotpearson), but most of them aren't active on Twitter. I notice that I get traffic by tweeting links to my content daily.
I was able to grow my follower total in a few ways. First, I never purchased followers. I knew I would be paying for bots and not people. The most organic way I grew my follower total is live tweeting events.
I attend conferences and Meetups so I pickup organic followers, but my content is outside of the themes of these events. Many of my tweets don't connect with my followers do to my wide range of topics. I don't mind, but something to think about if you want to grow your audience and traffic.
Additional Thoughts
I really don't pay attention to followers anymore. I really like to keep an eye on the ratio of Likes over Tweets. I feel this give me a better idea of how much people are connecting with what I tweet.
