Denzel Washington: "True desire in the heart for anything good is God’s proof to you sent beforehand to indicate that it’s yours already."
I think of Denzel Washington as a good actor, but not more than that. Recently, however, that changed as I bumped into a speech he held to graduating students. As I looked at him, I suddenly wondered why he didn't end up as a preacher.
Denzel Washington said lots of great things in the speech, but let me just emphasize one thing he said that made a great impact on me.

In the speech, Denzel Washington spoke about the importance of having faith in God. But, he also spoke about pursuing your dreams. And it was as he spoke about dreams, that he said what I quoted earlier.
He is actually saying that if you have a big desire in your heart for anything that is good, that is actually Gods way of saying to you that he has it prepared for you. You might desire bad stuff, but that isn't what he is speaking about. But, if you have a dream in your heart for something that is good, something that will have an impact on the people around you in a good way, that is Gods way of telling you that it is yours, and it is for you to go ahead and take hold of it.

That's not true. Our desires don't necessarily come from God. Just because we have them doesn't mean God will grant them.
(James 4:1-3 NIV) What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don't they come from your desires that battle within you? {2} You want something but don't get it. You kill and covet, but you cannot have what you want. You quarrel and fight. You do not have, because you do not ask God. {3} When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.
I don't think it was meant as a theological statement, but still... He says good desires, not all desires! A desire to help the poor, to support the needy, to build a business that will meet a need, can all be good desires from God. Such desires are very different from a desire for a new Lambo, a larger house, and more money in the bank account!
