Have you ever experienced, where the results of your efforts are not in line with your expectations. Must have been. I have also been. This may be very common for business people. The target has been set, the strategy has been carefully thought out, plans have been prepared, and actions have been taken. But the result? It turned out not to be what we expected. If the results are the same or more than what we expect, of course it's okay, but if it's far below what we expect, sometimes it makes us think, well ... it failed.

But what does it really fail? I remembered a story. You may have heard it from someone else. But it's okay, I just repeat it. It's about an old Indian shaman who was famous for being very successful. As you know, the main task of Indian shamans is to do a dance calling rain. Not every time an Indian shaman dances there will be rain, so the success rate of an Indian shaman is measured by how many times the rain occurs compared to the number of times he danced.

Well, our Indian healer reaches 100% success rate. Every time he danced, there would be rain. While the success rate of other Indian shamans, on average only 50% - 60%.
The news of the old shaman's greatness reached the ears of a very talented young shaman. The young shaman is curious because the success rate is only 70%.
So on an average of 10 times he danced, seven times there was rain. Intrigued, the young shaman decided to "apprentice" to the old shaman.

He studied every step, motion, and mantra that the old shaman said. The young shaman also duplicates. Do not even dare to observe the imitation of modifications, but observe the exact imitation. Until the young dukun was satisfied, he was able to duplicate the rain caller dance belonging to the old shaman. The young shaman returned to his village.

However, after implementing all the traditional healer knowledge, it turns out that the success rate has only risen slightly to 75%, far from 100%. The young shaman returned to the old shaman village to protest, because there must still be secrets hidden. The young shaman demonstrated the dance in front of the old shaman.

The old shaman after observing confirmed that the young shaman's dances and spells were correct and there was nothing wrong. The young shaman is even more confused, what is the difference between me and the old shaman. The young shaman returned home.

Just before the young shaman left the tent, by smoking a cigarette pipe the old shaman said: "Oh yes, have I said, that every time I dance, I never stop until the rain comes?" Yes. Never stop! That is the difference between the shaman who is 100% successful with the others.

The decision to stop, or continue, is the gate that distinguishes between success and failure. When you face that the results you expect do not fit your plan, there are two choices for you:

  • Stop, and declare failure, or
  • Consider the results as feedback for
revise your strategy, and you try again with a new strategy.

If you choose to fail, then you can take the first choice. While people who have never failed, will choose the second option. They make results that do not meet expectations as input, develop new strategies, and try again. If the results are still not appropriate, the strategy is re-formulated, and new actions are taken. So repeatedly. Until "it rains".

So failing, and also succeeding, is a decision. Up to you.

Thank you.
