Never Let Me Go was written by Kazuo Ishiguro and published in 2005.

It is such a great and powerful book. I don't want to give anything away, even the genre of the book in order not to effect the experience of the book. Even though I read the book many years after I watched the movie based on the book. I didn't find that it affected my reading experience.

The novel follows Kathy H. she doesn't have a last name, or a family. She grew up in Hailsham, a boarding school in England. She is now a caretaker. She spends a lot of time with her memories of her life in Hailsham, with her best friend Ruth who is the leader of a group of girls. Then she becomes friends with Tommy, a disturbed young boy. They all have no families, and almost no connection to the outside world which they learn about.

As you continue reading you realize that there is something horribly wrong about the entire situation in which all of the characters are in. It is always there in the background, but just like the fate of the characters only slowly dawns on them, we slowly come to realize that there are some sinister forces at play here.

Kathy H is so optimistic and is so busy pleasing other people that her attitude and emotions hide the reality from herself and from the reader.

It is an emotionally powerful book and extremely sad. It asks some pointed questions about humanity and what makes a person human. You can finish the book in a day, but it will stay with you for a while longer. It deserves all the praises that it got and if you have the time it is worth reading.
