An interview with an expert revealed how these female killers link sex and death, often boasting about the excitement they feel when taking another's life. Or the much darker killers, confessing to actually having sex with the decapitated corpses after the murders take place. It all boils down to being the most brutal in front of their narco boyfriends, gaining trust and desire from these violent criminals. One of the flakas named "la peque", who was captured by authorities for her involvement with the Sinaloa cartel, admitted to collecting the warm blood from her victims and drinking it before having sex with the corpses. Although it has never been confirmed, the sheer thought of this horrible act is enough to bring chills to even the hardest criminal.

Normally the traditional female role in these criminal organizations involve things like money laundering and the raising of children. Although this is still common, many of them have been opting in to be assassins and the leaders have been accepting this, since they can sometimes go where males can't. The recruitment process can vary, from the traditional "climbing the ranks" method, often starting as things like lookouts or getaway drivers. They are also born in to cartel families, gaining access through family members when the option to become part or the organizations are placed in front of them. They have even been known to recruit while incarcerated, reeling people in with the flashy lifestyle and seemingly endless cash supply.

Social Media has of course also been used as recruitment measures. Females are looking at the way these girls live in photos and videos and they want the same. Naturally they begin to reach out in hopes of being noticed by these criminals ( especially in the povern stricken areas).

Since 2007, México has been at war with the cartels and anyone who supports them and because of that, the normal death squads they use to send on missions have stopped fearing the enemy at war. Not anymore. These Flaka squads are able to go where the men can't anymore, relying more on charm and sex appeal to infiltrate and kill as opposed to the brute force the old squads used.

Not all of it is glory and money like it seems on the outside, as these young girls are slowly finding out. They are at high risk and death comes from everywhere,
maybe even more so since there is more betrayal in using the flakas.

Joselyn niño, a well known assassin for the Gulf cartel, is a perfect example how it can all go wrong in the blink of an eye. There are tons of posts on her Instagram of her bragging about her violent conquests and flashy lifestyle. Although it has not been confirmed, these posts were believed to be the reason that La Gladys, a Flaka from the Los Zetas cartel, murdered her then chopped up her body and stuffed the pieces In to a cooler found on the Mexico / US border in 2005. La Gladys has yet to be captured, still carrying out missions across Mexico.

It still too early to tell if they can climb through the ranks with violence and loyalty just like the males do. Although they seem to be treated equally, these cartels function like a traditional Mexican family, women raise kids and the men go to work. Although this is important to them, it has also been discovered that the flakas that stay low and treat it seriously can survive a lot longer than the males in this industry. Because of this reason alone, they are bound to take over or at the very least share the throne to these violent and sadistic organizations.
