Billy vs Willie got a little bit silly and the ‘fight’ turned into a really limp affair… Saunders son’s forced repent, was never really meant, that’ll teach Monroe for rubbing Stevie’s hair!

And Still

WBO Middleweight Champion Billy Joe Saunders successfully defended his title with a unanimous points win over challenger Willie Monroe.

The fight was a subdued affair. Prior to the bout Monroe described Saunders as the ‘UK version of Willie Monroe’, i.e. a slick, skillful southpaw. If that was the case Saunders looked like a more skilled, faster, hungrier version. Monroe simply didn’t throw enough punches to mount anything approaching a serious challenge to Saunders.

Over 'ere son, on my nut!

If anything this fight will be remembered for the antics of Saunders’ son, Stevie than anything the main protagonist did on the night.

At the weigh-in, little Stevie stepped between the two fighters. Monroe, gave him a playful pat on the head, to which Stevie punched, then aimed a kick towards Monroe’s groin.

Unapologetic at first...

Saunders tried to justify his son’s actions on social media,

My sons been taught when A stranger puts their hands on them they don't know punch and run away self defence

But all's well, that ends well

But despite the 'self-defence' claim, Stevie was rolled out post-fight to issue one of the most disingenuous apologies you're ever likely to hear,

In conclusion

There was only one Middleweight Title clash worth staying up for last night... and it wasn't this one!

Saunders son’s forced repent

Yeah, the weigh in was definitely the most interesting and exciting, lol part of this fight. Willie Monroe's lack of work I half contribute to Saunder's movement and manipulation of range and half to just lack of desire.

The main event went very different than I expected also. I thought we'd see a similar style from Canelo like when he fought James Kirkland. Luring in the aggressor and relying on great counter punching and angles. Seeing him get on his horse and do his best Mayweather impression was something I didn't expect at all. Given how much this fight meant, I really thought he'd try to make a decisive impression on his place in boxing as the best pound for pound fighter in the world.

GGG showed up and did what he does. Relentless stalking of his opponent and forcing the action. I had the fight close, but definitely had GGG winning by 2 rounds. All in all, it left a sour taste in my mouth. I guess I'm a bit spoiled by growing up in the Four Kings era, but damn, I expect the best in the world to want to prove they're the best and leave no doubt when they fight the best. GGG did his part last night.

Haha, Stevie is a brave boy.
I wonder if he is going to follow his dad's footsteps.
Thanks. I forgot to watch that fight. But your post helped me remember. :p

Has the fight between triple G and canelo alvarez been done?

Really liked the undercard fight with Lucien Reid, he's almost Lomachenko'esque. But there can only be one Lomachenko. As for the GGG fight, get that judge outta here!

The nut shot lol ... not sure why the bring kids on stage haha
