It wasn't that long ago that Anthony Crolla's career looked to be over due to injuries he sustained in an attack after he had chased off two burglars from a neighbour's house. Crolla recieved a fractured skull and a broken ankle for his troubles that almost put the continuation of his career in serious jeopardy. Just a little over three plus years later, and Crolla won, defended and lost the world title and now finds himself challenging the pound for pound king for the unified lightweight boxing title of the the world.
This is Lomachenkos first defence of his unified title and he will be looking to make a statement, his last two performances have been a little too close for comfort for the usually completely dominant athlete. Against Linares it was expected to be a tough fight, but his last outing against Pedraza was expected to be business as usual, has a glitch in the matrix been discorvered.
Crolla is a dogged never say die character, who exudes that through his high output never back down style, he is not blessed with huge power but makes up for that absence of power with a high volume of punches and high octane pressure.
Lomachenko is a stylistic genius, moving in and out of range at will and with a grace and speed that is almost undetectable to his opponents. Quick hands, quick feet and a buzz saw pace, make him a nightmare for most who face him.
This should be a fast paced fight, and exciting while it lasts, but Lomanchenko should have a little too much knowhow for the eager, courageous Crolla. I predict a mid rounds to late round stoppage.
