Of brick... and culture...
Every now and then, I guess I miss a little bit of Bali, a particular feature or a scene, or an item that whispers 'Bali'...
Since it is Saturday, it is also #BrickSaturday hosted by @erikah, whose purpose is to get people from around the world to pay attention to details ~ and what better way than to open one's eyes to the beautiful doorways of Bali!
Yes, I have posted on their doors and doorways before, but not these shots...
Main structure is of brick, it is not just a basic frame, but a solid structure, almost a small building! Their beauty lies in the detailing of cornices, heavy crowns and doors with exquisite carvings and mouldings highlighted colourfully and usually in rich gold.
See that nice rich red brick... goes wonderfully with the metal and woodwork!
And I want to show it off to you anyway!
Impressive, huh?!!
Adorned with statues on either side to welcome guests... I think
Especially the heavy crown on top too
Such a waste if I just crop close and only save the door...
From a distance, the door designs look like filigree work
Mostly of birds and flowers, vines and tendrils that curl around beautifully

follow some pretty great photographers on social media and they are great at providing some real feedback for me. I also love having opinions from non-photographers. They will see an image for what it is.. they don't look at it and see f-stops and digital noise and try to dissect the gear you used to make it.
The detail on the door especially is so intricate. One thinks of how much time and effort it has to take to create this sort of artwork. That crown on top of the door would be great to see in macro and monochrome - you know how much I like monomadness ;-)
Lovely post as usual!

"Door" has a lot of significance is south indian temple architecture . During the height of the development during Pallava and Chola empires; Door or Gopuram begin to have more significance than the main place where "deity" resides. The same style migrated and got modified to Bali, Ankorwat etc into their own unique styles. Similarities are however striking!
