Family members of the victims of the Humboldt Broncos tragedy expressed satisfaction with the charges against the driver of the truck involved in the accident.

"From what we understand is the highest level of criminal charges that could be brought against this individual," Toby Boulet, the father of the player who donated his organs after the accident, told Global News. The case is concrete, it is now up to the judicial system to do its job. "

The widow of team coach Darcy Haugan also welcomed the news on Friday.

"I'm happy that charges have been laid against him, but no matter the outcome, it will not cure our sentence," Christina Haugan told Global.

The Broncos team thanked the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) for their investigative work.

"Our organization trusts the justice system and we will follow the trial closely," said the Broncos on Twitter.

The RCMP arrested Jaskirat Singh Sidhu on Friday morning at his home in Calgary, Alberta. The 29-year-old will be charged with 16 counts of dangerous driving causing death and 13 counts of dangerous driving causing bodily harm. Currently detained, he will be appearing in the Saskatchewan Superior Court next week.

On April 6, the Humboldt Broncos were decimated when the team bus was hit by the Sidhu-driven truck at the intersection of Highways 35 and 335 in Saskatchewan.
