NYC COLD CONTINUES SLIGHT LIGHT SNOW CHANCE REMAINS

Good morning everyone. The sun is out, the wind is here, and the cold remains today here in the NYC. The only thing missing to make the January feel complete, is a few flurries.....well, that may happen today and tomorrow if a few stray ones survive the trip downstate.

Today will wind up being the coldest day of March 2019 with highs inly reach the mid to upper 20's. Expect windy conditions and maybe a few flurries in the afternoon as a weak spoke of energy comes down from the Great Lakes. Best chance for any flurry action will be well inland, but a stray one could make it down. Look for mid to upper teens tonight and low to mid teens away from NYC proper. The chance of single digit numbers remains well north of the NYC area.

The same goes for tomorrow with the chance of afternoon flurries, but we climb out of the 20's and into the low 30's. The wind machine continues until tomorrow night, when we begin to calm things down and it won't be as cold, but still well below average.

On Friday, we modify things even more and find ourselves in the mid to upper 30's. An icy veil of clouds will begin to spread over the area as a weak system will slip to the south of us. Some time between late afternoon and into the night, we might get brushed with the northern edge of some light snow that'll slip by very quickly.

A snow map won't be necessary on this one and even if we do get a dusting, sunny skies and mid 40's will wipe it out come Saturday.

Sunday continues to look rainy and relatively mild as low pressure goes well north and west of the NYC area. We'll wait to see how organized the precipitation is, but if it holds together pretty well, flood watches or local statements may need to be issued since our ground remains saturated. Highs in the upper 40's to low 50's Sunday.

Next week, we start off very slightly above average, then return to our expected very seasonal March weather until our next system arrives late next week. No big mid-March snowstorms are on the table right now, and near-seasonal temps look to dominate aside from brief, front-related mildness.

Welcome to March in the NYC area, it's looking very Marchy.

MANY THANKS TO TROPICAL TIDBITS FOR THE USE OF MAPS

Please note that with regards to any tropical storms or hurricanes, should a storm be threatening, please consult your local National Weather Service office or your local government officials about what action you should be taking to protect life and property.
