Was the sacking of Jose Mourinho by Manchester United a good business decision? + @drugwars

Some numbers behind that and @drugwars with a fairly tenuous lookalike link.

Mourinho was sacked in December after 17 league games in his third season, with a contract due to expire at the end of the 2019-20 campaign. Figures released on Thursday list a sum of £19.6m as “an exceptional item relating to compensation to the former manager and certain members of the coaching staff for loss of office”. source

And he's the new face of @drugwars? Smiling a little less these days, even though the payoff from his last club, Manchester United could buy him 53,388,651 STEEM at today's price of 0.48$. And that amount of STEEM could make him a real player in @drugwars - big enough to take down even ngc!

The game could do with a cash injection, here's a chart of the money-flow into the game over the past month:

Battles were disabled a few days before the peak day of transfers to the @drugwars-dealer and were re-enabled on the 2nd March. The decline in sends over this period pretty easy to spot. The return of the battles did spark a lift in the money flow on the 3rd March, presumably after folks had logged in again to find they'd be looted. Sadly though, the decline has since continued and the falling money flow has to be seen as a worry.

With the current set-up, I'm not keen to financially reinforce my army only to have them wiped each day by a much larger player. Perhaps if players are grouped into 'leagues' based on HQ size or drug production, this would encourage investment again?

Last night Manchester United fortuitously reached the last 8 of the Champions League, the biggest trophy in European club football, and when Jose Mourinho was sacked late last year, few would have thought this possible. He was paid a ridiculous amount in the payoff but in 2018, the following sums were given to the teams reaching the advanced stages of the competition. source

  • qualification for the quarter-finals: €10.5m per club
  • qualification for the semi-finals: €12m per club
  • qualification for the final: €15m per club

The new manager Ole Gunnar Solskjær has turned the club's fortune around since he joined, and last nights result is worth almost 9 million pounds - almost half of the sum paid out to Mourinho. Not a bad start in taking back some of the cost, and it could get better still in this competition.

And then there is the Premier League to consider:

Sixth was looking like the best position The Reds could hope for under Mourinho, but now it looks like 4th or even 3rd place is possible. Last year, the difference in prize money between 6th and 3rd was 34.8 - 29.0 = 5.8 million pounds. source

In addition to the prize money, 3rd and 4th places qualify the team for the Champions League which is worth a minimum of 5 million pounds to each team and likely to be much more if TV money and gate receipts are included. source

So yeah, as well as the feel good factor returning to the club (winning games does that), it looks like the Board made a savvy business decision to remove Jose and bring in Ole. Solskjær is currently the 'caretaker' manager and has not yet been offered a contract by the club. Personally, I think it would be a travesty if he was not awarded the role at the end of the season, or earlier.

As for Jose, come on dude, buy some STEEM and give us more days like this!

Cheers

Two things I'd like to say:

  1. Ole's at the wheel!
  2. Fuck Liverpool

Excellent statements there are too!

I really hope Liverpool bottle it and win nothing this year - would rather have man shitty take the prize again over them lot :D

In both things, it may be the whole concept of beginners luck, right? Not sure who will want to start Drug Wars now given the pay wall thatbis apparent.

Could be that I suppose. Football is quite unforgiving though and so I'm going to give Ole the benefit of the doubt. He was working with some of the now first-team players almost a decade ago when they were just kids. You can tell they want to perform for him and this was clearly not the case for Mourinho.

I guess it was obvious that this was the route for drugwars. In the beginning of these kinds of things money starts flowing in. This will give some players, the ones with the guts to invest and the availability of liquid steem, such a big advantage that it will make other understand that investing any more money will more likely have a negative ROI. So why would they.
If you would snoop the replies of bookkeeping you will see that almost nobody who did invest more than 100 steem do have made a profit yet! I was lucky to be very early in the games and I do have a positive ROI while I did invest 80 steem.
The best ROI was earned by the ones who did not invest or do have not invested more than 20 steem. I rather have all my production stolen than to invest any more liquid steem. I will keep this in the bank for the next hot game on the platform.
Do think that the owner of PSG will keep om investing more and more to see them finally win the CL? Doubt it! Evern the richest people on the earth will have a moment that they will stop the leak!
Cheers,
Peter

Yeah. It currently looks like one to avoid if you are keen on ROI and want to play a game. I think both sides are lacking at present. My main account is still under water, but I will check on that now...

PSG must be really disappointed with the result the other night, the penalty decision was very harsh, but you can see why it was awarded also.

Ok!

Hi @abh12345!

drugwars

Received:

  • 116.691 STEEM from daily
  • 49.272 STEEM from heist
  • 17.129 STEEM from referral

Spent:

  • 357.715 STEEM

Total:

  • -174.623 STEEM

First transfer was before 25.55 days.
Your ROI per day is 2.00 % and you are earning approx. 7.17 STEEM per day.
Break even in approx. 24.4 days.

Hi @holger80

Thanks for bookkeeping.

I'm wondering if the average daily earnings should be based on the past 5 days or so as I am earning less than half of 7.17 STEEM per day. This new figure could also then be used to calculate a more accurate break even date.

Cheers

Asher

Good suggestion.

The grouping thing in drugwars has to be made a thing. In all other types of these games I have played you are in a band of similar specced players and have a fair chance of defending yourself not just being pumped up the muck every five minutes without so much as a wink and a smile.

Yep. I'm thinking clash of clans and boom beach (a beach in your name sir) are good examples to follow.

Speaking of being pumped up the muck - a fine link-back opportunity :)

Perhaps the textbox in the battles is the place to insert the wink and the smile? I've gone into full blown turtle-mode recently - no-ones stealing shit but they are still blowing my troops away.

Slowly clawing back the original investment though :)

Hehe, yeah. All my troops got wiped out really quickly and we're getting slaughtered as fast as I could make more do I just decided not to bother. Likewise though, the original investment is getting back to almost level!!

Lol, good look back, it was entirely unintentional! Hehe

@abh12345, It's reflecting as you've really follow the Football Updates really closely brother. And this game definitely created an dynamic environment in Steem Ecosystem. Hope that you are enjoying this game. Stay blessed.

I used to be a big fan of football as a younger, but now my mood doesn't depend on it so much :)

It's nice to see Manchester United doing well though, and I'm really happy that it is going well for Ole.

Good to read these words brother. Have a amazing time ahead.

Ah but there is a way to beat bigger players on drugwars xD and it’s mobbing. It can only work if you have friends or know people who want to bring down a particular player. You d have to coordinate and attack at the same time before the shield goes up. And of course if the player you want to bring down keeps winning there won’t be a shield up anyway. You just need enough people willing to organize together ;)

Sounds sneaky!

I think payback could well be a bitch and so have decided to do little attacking and become a turtle. Are you playing then and are you part of a mob?

I’m playing (used your referral actually because Acid was too annoying with his). the mob part I figured because I was attacked by 4 people this morning.
I’m not actually interested in battles, so feel like I’ll just spend my “earnings” on stuff before I get attacked next. It d be easier if I could set up a script to do it automatically xD I almost broke even with what I have initially invested too :)

Aww thanks :)

I have scripts running to heist and buy units - the units are there so to not make it worth attacking me by 'burning' my production. Maybe if I'm left alone for a while I might seek someone to attack, but you know i'll hit a mob leader and then be hammered forever more!

Yeah that seems like the best strategy atm and upgrading silos

I need one more month to buy steem while it's on sale

I doubled my ROI so no matter what happens I am good with drugwars. but I think it is in trouble if they keep allowing larger groups to take advantage of the smaller ones. the bottom will fall out and without more people coming in what would be the point

I need at least 2 more months - this recent rise is doing my head in!

Yeah it's not looking too promising for DW long-term right now, I do hope they can find ways to spark growth though as hightouch and team are a good bunch.

I feel obligated to share this funny video!

Right before leaving Man. United, José Mourinho said this in a press conference!

I wonder if he's counting this year into his stats? Not at a club so it doesn't count? :)

It didn't work out at Man U for him, but I wouldn't bet against him earning more trophies for another team soon enough.

I don´t think he was counting this year, but he basically did qualify once again anyways!

Me neither, as he said the stats speak for themselves, but football changed a lot past 5-8 years and I think he needs to make a small adjustment to his approach... Other than that he still is one of the best coaches ever.

Interesting read. Ole is really doing a nice job managing United. BTW - I like the way you analysed the financial implications, I haven't given attention to that before now. That means by the end of the season the club would have gotten an equivalent of the amount paid to Mourinho.

Thanks :) Yes he's doing great! I think the time spent there as a player, and as a youth team assistant when he retired is really helping. Rashford and Pogba were just kids then, and you can tell they want to play for this guy.

And yeah, I think with the extra TV revenue and other bits, they will make back what it cost to sack him by the end of the season - nice!

I will like to say it is obvious ole have really changed man u since he arrived. He deserve the job

I agree - what a signing :D
