Happy Days

I thought I would do a follow up from the issues I had last week with the cardboard cores on the pallet wrap. We purchased another 50 000 cores last Friday and waited until yesterday before putting them into use.

The thought process was the glue when manufactured takes 4 days to cure to enable the core to reach it's key strength. We weren't going to take a chance as it is costly to have a repeat performance so we maxed out the core thickness as well.

Failure on this batch was not an option as when you are supplying 10's of 1000's of rolls to clients having a batch come back and an upset client is something no one needs. I didn't care about the cost involved, but getting it right was paramount.

I need my client having the confidence in my ability and the factory to overcome whatever is thrown at us. The only time a client will drop a supplier is if they are having problems with the product or serious price differences. Price is fine, but the quality was being questioned this time.

They need to know that they have a reliable supplier that will get to the bottom of any problem and will have their back. It is their name when they are supplying to their clients and not ours. I know they are in the process of making inroads into the two biggest clients in the country and I don't want them to have to worry about the product they are selling.

We delivered 30 000 rolls this morning and I wasn't sure what to expect. I was sweating buckets and it wasn't overly hot at the time. The ones I was worried about turned out fine and looked amazing. This is huge and now I won't relax, but need to manage this and make sure the orders are the same going forward.

They are now happy so that makes me happy and now we need to reduce the core thickness and work backwards slowly, very slowly. Test batches will be done on various thicknesses next week and we should be able to claw back our margins again. This was not funny and very stressful for myself and everyone involved and overcoming this was massive.

I think it’s the time of year to be stressed ! I’m up the wall street as well

That is awesome that you were able to get it all figured out. Hopefully in the coming weeks you can narrow it down to the exact thickness you need and move forward from there. Good luck!

Problem returned again today, but the stock was left in the direct sunlight for 4 hours outside and was sweating. It is enclosed in a plastic protection layer and this created it to sweat. Only 7 rolls looked as though they were going to fail out of around 8000 but it is a massive improvement.
