Has Greyhound Been Working With Border Patrol And DEA To Enable Constitutional Violations Of American's Rights?

in #business6 years ago

Millions of travelers use Greyhound every year and because the company is private, legal experts maintain that the company is under zero obligation to allow law enforcement to come on-board for investigation purposes unless they have the appropriate warrant.

The 4th Amendment is supposed to offer protection in this area, it promises Americans the right to be secure from any unreasonable search or seizure. But despite not having a warrant, it seems that Greyhound has been all-to-willing over the years to assist law enforcement with their investigations into their passengers.

It's alleged that Drug Enforcement Administration officers have frequently been using train and bus depot locations to stake-out and look for drug traffickers.

They've even managed to gain access to passenger manifests from Greyhound, detailing people's names, where they are traveling to, whether they paid for their ticket with cash, and so on.

Officers allegedly routinely engage in searching Greyhound passengers and their luggage, according to a legal director with the DPA (Drug Policy Alliance).

Many people who are opting to travel with Greyhound to get to their destination, might not be aware to what extent they might be faced with a situation that involves them sacrificing their Constitutional rights, defense attorneys have suggested.

If you consent to that search, they warn, then there is no Constitutional protection relating to that search.

Aside from looking for drugs, it's also alleged that border agents have also been conducting immigration raids on buses too. And legal organizations such as the ACLU have insisted that Greyhound has no obligation to allow border agents onto the bus, yet it's alleged they frequently come on-board anyways.

Passengers have been questioned in a myriad of states, such as Vermont, Michigan, Arizona, and other regions.

According to one spokesman with the border agency, they've been doing this for decades—using transportation hubs to look for undocumented immigrants and possible drug traffickers. Legal organizations such as the ACLU have urged the company to stop doing this and stop catering to agents, allowing them on buses without the appropriate authority (warrant).

The company has said that they have no choice and that they don't support nor have they coordinated any of the searches.

I don't know if it is even possible, but things would change big time if companies/ corporations would start telling the Feds to F off. Is it really risky for them? Sort of, but big companies have some serious sway if they wanted to flex it. The problem is that those in charge don't see any actual value in resisting. I don't have an answer as to how, but it is probably up to us to show them the value of resisting with us.

I do not want my fellow Americans molested hurt or robbed on greyhound.

To the question in your title, my Magic 8-Ball says:

Yes

our countries politics situation is very bad.

Yes, Greyhound has no choice. If they make any kind of a fuss, then the the blue line will stop all Greyhound busses everywhere. The po-po can check weight, brakes, lights. They can stop them for any traffic violations.

So, if Greyhound wants to stay in business, if a police officer asks for anything, its yes, sir, right away sir.

And the people who travel using Greyhound are such that they do not have the monetary ability to hire a lawyer.

according to the supreme court, they do have a choice. Just because it wouldn't go well for them to exercise their rights to say no doesn't mean they don't have the choice to.

I understand your statement. Legally, they do not have to comply with the officer's requests.

However, is a handing over your wallet to a person who is holding a gun to your head a choice that was made of free will?

it erodes the spine rather quickly 👌

friend please help me, i upvote and resteem post doitvoluntarily

Regardless of whether it’s legal or illegal for Greyhound employees to deny admission to private property, I would be terrified as one of those employees trying to deny a police officer access to the bus. I’m sure I’m not the only one and for good reason.

**"...UNconstitutional Violations Of American's Rights?"

Although the company can exercise its rights, is exposed to persecution by officials, often we stop exercising our rights for these issues.
