Mercedes is ready to introduce electric vehicles in India

Luxury car maker Mercedes-Benz can take up electric vehicles in India by 2019, although it will depend on the structure suited for e-vehicles. A senior official of the company said this. The company is developing a wide range of e-vehicles globally and believes that by 2022, the share of electric vehicles in its total sales would be 20 to 25 percent.

Mercedes-Benz India Managing Director and CEO Roland Folger said, "We are confident about e-vehicles and have been engaged in developing e-vehicles. By 2022-24, we have 15 to 20 new models of this kind We believe that by 2022, 20 to 25 percent of our sales will come from e-vehicle, we are moving forward in this direction globally, it will depend on taxation in India. " He said that by 2019 we can present our first electric vehicle in India with a fascinating series ... but there are many things in India that need to be clear.

Folger said that we need a solution that allows the fully equipped vehicles (CBU vehicles) to be brought here ... first it should start at a small level and move slowly. You can not do that all the benefits are available only to those who make the vehicles at the domestic level.

The official said that in cases related to the promotion of environmentally friendly technology, ready-made electric vehicles outside the country should be treated equally to domestic manufacturers. Under current goods and service tax (GST) system, electric vehicles are taxed at 12 percent. On the other hand, 60 percent to 100 percent custom duty is charged on the imported car. It depends on the price and the size of the engine. Apart from this, the government has increased customs duty on imported automobiles, cars and motorcycles from 10 percent to 15 percent in the budget of 2018-19. At the same time, the duty on fully prepared motor vehicles (trucks and buses) has been increased from 20 to 25 percent.
