Get Away From the Shiny Tools
Like most entrepreneurs, I like tech. I like seeking new pieces of software and exploring how they can be integrated into our Firm. Automating tasks. Freeing up time. Increasing productivity. It makes me smile.
It is no problem for leaders of businesses to be involved in the process of finding the new tools that will help drive the business forward. After all, these pieces of software will form the backbone of the running of our business. However, we need to make sure that we don't become too attached to playing with these shiny tech tools. This just becomes distracting and a time-drain (sorry but it's true).
We must make sure that we train our teams up on how to use the software tools and get the best out of them - but then we need to let go.
There will always be new tools to find and test. Our role is to keep driving the business forward and not to get lost in the 'operational day-to-day weeds'. This means a focus on the things that matter.
- Helping ensure that the business strategy is on track
- That the right business connections are being made and fostered
- Finding new talent to add to the team
- Checking the pipeline of business to make it's a) full and b) full with the right prospects for the business
- Keeping an eye on cash flow
