Hundreds of SBD to put a one minute read post on the trending page

in #busy6 years ago (edited)

I have previously admit that I rarely read the trending page posts, but today was one of those days that I did threw a glance at some posts. None of them have I entirely read, but one really got my attention. It was not long at all...

The main attraction for my eyes was a picture with some poor kids that made me open the post, and a title that promised something deep to read about. And that what I was left with. A promise...

After reading the post in less than a minute even if I'm not a native English speaker I could only think at one thing: what a total waste of money from that user and how low is the quality of the trending page going to be if these kind of posts are going to multiply over there.

No wonder that the Bloomberg presenter asked Ned in his late interview about spam and low quality posts on the Steem platform.

The post itself was more like a tweet encouraging people to be kind and help the ones around and that's not bad advice, but wouldn't be kind from the author to donate these 480 SBD to some homeless people rather than spend them on boosting his 136 word post on the trending page?

From what I read he was confessing to have been experiencing such tough situation of living on the streets and from other peoples kindness he managed to change that. Being a simple minded man I'm thinking that spending such amount of money would have helped people in need much more than his post that treated the subject generally without presenting a particular case, but...ended on the trending page.

He did received though a well deserved share of tens of comments and congratulations for what a great post it has written. And now he's rocking a 61 reputation score to make him trustworthy of other future ones like this one to come.

If you're curious about the post I'm talking about click that trending page button and let these poor kids guide you ;)

Thanks for reading and wish you a great day, evening or morning wherever you are!

lol.. found it

If I understand the comment of @transparencybot correctly, the guy pumped in 861$, right now the post stands at 845$ of which the curators will take home >200$. Ergo, this guy made a loss of 200$. Phew! I would say he'll learn the lesson soon enough.

Personally, I never go to the trending page. It's a bit like chart music: The lowest common denominator - including the industrial distortion.

From what I read in his post I don't think he's that smart to learn. It's not his only post boosted like that. Some of us around here really don't have what to do with money and spend them on nonsense while advocating compassion and good deeds.
I found though a very good one that made me forget about that boosted one minute read.

It's really worthy of being in trend

What a pity! I'll check out the other article.

Perhaps the user is just trying to get attention for his NGO and has a marketing budget he can burn through to try things on Steemit, who knows. But I agree, a Gutmensch rarely is a good Mensch :-)

I'm from the US and yes, German has some funny wonderful words...

Forgot to ask: are you German?
From my poor German "sprache" I know that liebe is the German word for love and lust is what the English call desire.

I understand the frustration and agree completely... Frankly all these guys do is keep the whales supplied with an ever increasing supply of rent money... There is no way he could've made money on it, but as you said, he now sports a 61 rep and looks like he is a star here!

Thank you for showing my your frustration and I completely understand why you feel how you do!

Thanks for throwing the post a glance. I can't say it's a true frustration. It's rather a perpetuated disappointment about the quality of Steemit and the trending page that I have with these kind of practices.
If it were for me I would disable these reputation scores. Most of the times they really have no value and sadly they can be bought.

you are exactly right about the reputation scores and the ways in which they've lost their meaning... I think there will be some decent changes happening at some point, so I hope you hang in there and don't let the bad stuff get to you... I see the BS like everyone else, I just think it will correct one way or another... And in my opinion, the another way will be to make these whales sell to people that actually care.

He will lost 150 SBD.

His other posts are also 100% shit posts.

A waste of money on his posts promoted. After he stops boosting such posts with hundreds of SBD he will remain with his 60+ rank and almost nothing to offer in order to get Steem in return for his content.
That why I don't see the point at all for such actions.
