QUICK TUTORIAL: Windows Not Starting after Power On, Power Light Indicator is On, No Beep. (Desktop)
Do you have a desktop at home? Then one day it was not able to function properly. You turned it on, but the screen is still black, the light indicator on your monitor is blinking or amber in color, the power light indicator in front of the CPU is on, no beep code either. I was stuck in that state forever until you power it off.
The Problem
Be advised that the situation of the computer that I mentioned above can be caused by two reasons.
- A malfunctioning or defective RAM, it could be caused by the following: (a) Dust or dirt that accumulated at the body of RAM's circuit board. (b) Loose connection.
- A malfunctioning motherboard.
Troubleshooting
Address first the issue on malfunctioning or defective RAM.
Here's how you do it:
- Turn-off the CPU
- Remove the power cable of CPU.
- Remove the RAM.
- Remove dust or dirt.
- Make the gold pin connections of the RAM shiny again by erasing the gold pins with a pencil eraser.
- Return the RAM.
- Power on your computer.
If all goes well you should hear a single beep sound after you power on your computer.
If the steps above does not resolve the problem time to check if your motherboard is defective or malfunctioning.
Here's how to check if your motherboard is malfunctioning:
- Turn-off your CPU.
- Remove the power cable of CPU.
- Remove the RAM.
- Return the power cable of CPU.
- Power on your computer (without the RAM).
IMPORTANT: We need to power on your CPU without the RAM so that we can check if your motherboard is defective or not.
- If you heard a long beep sound it indicates that your motherboard is okay and your RAM is defective.
- If you did not hear a long beep sound it indicates that your motherboard is defective.
If all goes well you should hear a single beep sound after you power on your computer.
