Happy Friday my Steemian Friends! The weekend is here, we’re getting ready to head out for a short road trip!

Travel is fun but the drive or flight can be long and I find snacks are always necessary, don’t you?

The problem I have is I don’t want to sit in a car or plane for long periods and eat junk.

When I do, I feel awful!

So, to combat that problem, I’ve started making my own snacks!

Come along, I’ll show you how!

First I start with fresh fruits and vegetables!

Today we’re making our snacks with Kiwi, Sweet Potatoes, and Grapes!

Ingredients

  • 3 fresh Kiwi
  • 2 Sweet Potatoes
  • 2 cups fresh grapes
  • Lemon juice
  • salt, pepper
  • Chocolate chips- I use dairy and soy free
  • Olive Oil

Preparation

Kiwi

  • Wash, peel and slice your kiwi about ¼”thick.

    IMG_4412.JPG

  • Dip kiwi in light solution of lemon juice. You may add a teaspoon of maple syrup to this if you wish to enhance the sweetness. I think they are sweet on their own.

  • Place on dehydrator trays

Dehydrate on fruit setting for 6-8 hours. You may also dehydrate these in your oven. Check your kiwi to make sure they are dry before removing. Depending on the water content, you may dehydrate more or less!

These are so delicious, not kidding!

Sweet Potatoes

  • Wash and peel the sweet potatoes. Slice about 1/4” thick. I use a small amount of Olive Oil, salt and pepper to toss the potatoes

  • Lay in single layer, with potatoes not touch one another. Dehydrate for 12-24 hours. Checking to make sure they are dry. If not sure, dry a bit longer, otherwise they will be spongey, you want them to be crisp!

Now the fun part!

Chocolate! Hey, it’s a road trip, you have to have Chocolate!

Melt dark chocolate (I use dairy and soy free). You can do this in microwave or with double boiler on stove.
Now dip the edge of each chip in the chocolate. Lay on a rack to drain, place in freezer for 5 minutes to harden.

Hold on, you'll see, they're beautiful!

Grapes to Raisins

  • Wash and destem all grapes. Place on dehydrator try. Make sure they aren’t touching one another. Dehydrate on fruit setting.

  • Grapes take a few days to dehydrate so be patient! The result will be the best raisin you have ever eaten!

You can eat these snacks by themselves, chop them up and add your favorite nuts for a trail mix! Either way, you have a healthy road trip treat!

I hope you have a great weekend! We’ll tell you all about ours, perhaps while we’re on the road!

It’s all about Good Health!

And as always, blessings to you all

I have to get this Dehydrator..............they are so many healthy and delicious things you can do with it. This is one of the amazing ideas, absolutely love it 🌸💖🌸

Lena, you really have to, I was able to get it on amazon for $50.(Nesco 4 tray) I have had many dehydrators with lots of bells and whistles, no need. This one is fine! I have many raw recipes which you can make with a dehydrator. You would love it!

I knew grapes become raisins when dried...but it never occurred to me to make my own!! And those look much nicer than the desiccated packaged kind. Thanks for the tip!

These look delicious! It's kinda funny but I used to own an excalibur dehydrator...which is supposed to be the very best...and never got amazing results that look this good...especially those sweet potato chips! You have inspired me to give this another try with a cheaper model! <3
