New generation of workaholics

Better workaholic can only be workaholics. What is the dream of any Manager? That's right, a full-fledged team of specialists, ready for hard work and long working hours, and if all of this happens in "cookies", then life was a success.

According to the current poll, every third Russian (32%) almost every day delayed at work. Another 28% of employees do this 1-2 times a week. 30% admitted that they stay in the office after work several times a month - they rated it as "rare". And only 10% work strictly from call to call.
At the same time, most companies do not pay for recycling.

Monday gave me a wonderful letter from one Ministry, with the attached methodological materials pages about two hundred and sixty and forms to fill. The answer was needed, as usual - almost yesterday, so the working day promised to be delayed longer than usual. In order to read all written at least on the diagonal and scatter form in the directions it took a couple of hours. Now the process of processing and filling was paralleling, but there was a dependence on other structural units. Taking into account that the information had to be filled in inclusive till 2027, all work quickly got bogged down. Since the working day we still do fixed, want to work longer, but my employees were not. Apparently, one in three of the concentrated in my Department.

Workaholic(eng. workaholic) is a person who not only loves his job, but is dependent on it. Without work, he literally loses interest in life: he is not happy even vacation, and long holidays turn into torture.

Of course, I do not require subordinates to work from dawn to dusk and motivate everyone to follow my example, quite regularly stay at work. Everyone works in his rhythm and does not have to sit all the work day, while portraying the stormy activity. Imaginary workaholics only harm the work, as they specifically try to delay the execution of the task or split it into several subtasks, the solution of which unexpectedly requires additional time. Plunging into small parts, they naturally begin to process against the background of other employees, but their ultimate goals are not as noble as the true workaholics.

According to the Organization for economic cooperation and development, Russia is on the 6th place in the ranking of workaholics. The average Russian works for 1985 hours a year.

However, real labour productivity is low. Despite the declared stabilization in the economy, the country has lost two more positions in the annual ranking of Market Watch:

Analysts at Market Watch compared data from 36 of the world's largest economies, assessing GDP per capita, as well as the level of productivity. At the end of 2017, our country fell to 34th place, the Market Watch study says. Russia has lost two positions compared to year 2016 — 32nd place came down on the 34th, losing to Chile and Poland. Worse among the developed countries, according to the study, only Costa Rica and Mexico.
When comparing the productivity of the largest Russian state-owned companies and their foreign counterparts obtained discouraging results: we lag in revenue per employee tenfold or more.

Quite a strange situation, on the one hand, we are ready to work more regularly and almost free of charge, but on the other hand, we weave in the tail of the developed countries. The official explanation of this phenomenon consists of several main reasons:

Apparently, the government decided to take care of this problem and actively engage in planning, since the request I received is directly related to the development of the concept of digital enterprise. Not quite clear the reason for such a long horizon, because in ten years everything will change dramatically. A new generation will come that will have different priorities and preferences. The question today is whether we will be able to provide the future of these workers with modern technologies and updated production facilities.

According to the report of the international consulting company Manpower Group, which presented the results of the study in the report Millennial Careers: 2020 Vision, in a couple of years, generation Y will reach parity with generation X in the workplace.

Our generation is basically ready for processing and often has in addition to the main work additional, as well as regularly earns:

An interesting fact is that many people associate their lives with work and are ready to continue working obligations, even with the onset of retirement age:

For the Z generation entering the labour market, this means more competition and higher demands from the employer. On the one hand, the gap in technology between us is not so great, although the education they receive today should be much higher than what was given to generation Y, but objectively it is not always so. The education system is not as mobile and effective as desired. Whether there will be a qualitative leap in labor productivity from the synergy of new generations is still in question.

To interesting result came in the INSEAD Emerging Markets Institute, Universum, and the HEAD Foundation conducted research on the opinions of different generations:

Taking into account our domestic labor market trends and progressive steps towards the creation of large corporations with a state share, the dream job for half of the employees is in a completely different place. Therefore, it turns out that a lot of human resources are involved, and units work not effectively, which increases the gap already existing in technologies and complex bureaucratic machine, hindering the development and increase in labor productivity.
