Coronado Farmers Market Friday and My California Twofer

in #busy5 years ago (edited)

The Coronado Farmers Market in California is doing double duty for me today. This post is for the MarketFriday weekly event by @dswigle and for the weekly MyCalifornia Contest by @socalsteemit.

This was my Tuesday market for the many years I lived in Coronado. I used to work in the place it was held for some of those years and so could just get up from my desk and go out to the parking lot.

Later I drove up in my car from another job. Later still, after I lost "half my size" and all of my marbles, I used to ride my bike from home.

It's a small market by the waterfront of San Diego Bay. In the background of this shot your can see a large container ship "Pasha Hawaii" passing by. But I'm looking at the oranges at $4 for 5 pounds or $7 for 10 pounds. Luxury!

Huge pomegranates for 75 cents apiece, so you know this shot is in December. And I wish I had those wonderful limes and lemons for $2 a bag. For some reason the citrus here in SE Asia is a bit disappointing and usually more expensive.

And raw honey for cheap! This used to be a staple in my house. The bee pollen was always in my freezer too. $3 for a huge bag of persimmons. Now I'm drooling.

These beautiful flowers were sold by a pair of twin men who no longer attend. They were both so nice and the flowers were always lovely and fresh. I only took photos and I send this shot to people who are sad on the internet. It usually cheers them up!

These were my weekly egg buy. So fresh and $5 a dozen.

Apples without poison! Such a treat. I would go up and down this stall eating apple samples until I decided which very expensive fruit to buy.

This is where I got my greens and veggies. The young lady is showing me a mutant corn. You cannot really tell how odd it was by my bad photo, but it was not something you would want to eat. It's glowing for an unknown reason.

Here's my bike again. I miss it. My neighbor gave it to me for free when I lost weight. I was shocked to find I knew how to ride it. I stopped at age 11 when I was too fat and too embarrassed to ride. It's true that you don't forget and I had fun with this thing.

Cheap organic tomatoes I love but cannot eat. They are inflammatory and my Rheumatoid Arthritis lets me know it.

But I bought 1 each of the $3 squash in the background and chowed down!

So there you have a bit of the life I used to lead. It seems very far away now and I guess it is. This might be Part One of many. I have a lot of photos of this place. It's time I got my photos off the hard drive and out into the world where they might be of interest to someone else but me :)

I'm a proud member of SocalSteemit. Bringing Southern California to you from no matter where I am!

It is that time of year when the fitness equipment is out and the diet books are being read. I lost "Half My Size" eight years ago by using natural methods, and you can too!

This is Sharon @fitinfun. I am posting:

Those oranges look good I can get that here in Texas at the local HEB store and they are great.

I miss my oranges. They are not the same here at all. Don't get me started on the grapefruit either :(

Wow! That looks like a nice little market and if you don't mind me saying so I love your bike, especially the baskets. I can't believe you didn't have a basket on the front.

I was really surprised when you said that the Citrus and Southeast Asia was disappointing and more expensive. I can't think of a better place to grow it then in the hot weather that they have. I only say this because I lived in Arizona for a couple years and it was a very hot there and we had the best Citrus that I have ever had. I will take some of that raw honey for sure!! I sooooo love the flowers! How can you not love flowers?

It was really interesting to delve into your Once Upon a Time Life and although you live in a Heavenly place, Southern California will always be home to you. So to speak anyway. It was really a wonderful visit and I am so glad that you brought me there to Coronado. I loved it when I was there! Thank you so much for posting into Market Friday and I appreciate all the hard work of putting these posts together.

I am so late! Almost time for next week, @dswigle. Thank you again for all your awesome support. It's always my tsusers that are the best :)

The bike was a freebie and those baskets worked, so I just made do with what I had. I decided to get a bike, went outside and told the first neighbor I saw that I was looking and he said, "You can have this one for free!" Literally 2 minutes after I decided to try to ride a bike again.

The citrus is mostly sub-par or expensive everywhere here. I am always on the hunt since I am a big consumer for the Vitamin C.

I'm so glad you like this market. Part Two coming right up!

I think the smaller markets have so much more charm and personaility than the bigger markets

I liked this one a lot and miss it. i will show some more expensive stuff this week. I could spend $100 back in the day.

I can see why looking forward to see other shots from there
Have a great day

That's so weird.. before I even read the text I immediately thought "Looks like San Diego in the background".

I go down there every year for comic-con. ILOVE Coronado Island. We stay over there during the con and take the ferry over to the convention center. We like eating at Spiro's Gyros!

San Diego is the BEST City! It’s especially fun during Comic Con!

Maybe I’ll see you there in July. I don’t go to the actual Comicon but I love being in the area during the festivities.

Oh yeah! I love it there. Honestly you can have as much fun outside as inside during the con. The whole are becomes a big party! See ya next year! (Unless you are in costume haha)

My son goes. They had a @socalsteemit meetup for Comicon last year. Try to get in on that one :)

I miss my Spyros for sure. They were my neighbors too. It's very inbred over there :)

Great pictures! Makes me want to check out the market, especially now that I’m back in SD!

It's 3pm to dark on Tuesdays in the back lot at the Ferry Landing. Take photos for me :)

I’ll have to check it out!

Thanks for a delicious tour of your farmers market. I wish you could take some of my lemons off my hands, for free! Much love

WAA! I wish! I used to get my lemons off the ground in season. A few neighbors had trees, and I would get them off the sidewalk as I walked.

I get no-so-good lemons by the one here for about 50 cents, but usually pass. They have cheap limes the size of marbles. so that is my go-to.

Glad you liked the tour - thank you!

colorful photos. good work..price are kind of up.

I really enjoy a good quality Farmer's Market.

Me too! I pretty much only shop at markets now.
