Freewrite Day 401 Hotel

Freewrite Hotel fitinfun.jpg

Hotels have been a fact of life for me for most of my years on earth. My first memories of them are on childhood vacations. We also sometimes would stay in a hotel somewhere and where we went “home” home had become a different place! My dad used hotels to park us when the move was occurring and then after the stay – there we were – somewhere else.

As an adult, I traveled a lot for work and used hotels the companies paid for all over the US. Then I ran into someone in my 20’s who told me about “weekly” and "monthly" hotels. These are places you can stay sort-of long term which makes moving to different cities a little easier. You can stay at a weekly place until you find something more permanent.

Now in SE Asia for a few years, I have stayed in many hotels in different countries. I have lived long-term in monthly hotels and have “downgraded” to hostels for my short trips.

I use hostels because they are cheaper but mainly to have the chance to meet other travelers for the two or three days I am in an unfamiliar place. If I have a regular private hotel room, I will just sit there and work. In the communal living of hostels, my world becomes broader and I get more out my trips.

My post is for the #freewrite daily challenge by @mariannewest. Freewrite is a great way to post on steemit when you do not think you have the time, or talent, or anything to say. I know you can do this too! Here is Marianne’s freewrite prompt post for today. Give it a try and surprise yourself.

well if you visit the states again you should airbnb, usually the hosts are nice and like to converse, they know all the local attractions, short cuts and tips ypu would not find from vistors in a Hostel or a Hotel Concierge.

I know I am one just outside of NYC 22 min to midtown by Train, The great thing about hosting besides the money is meeting people from all walks of life from arond the globe...

It's a blast, less than a Good Hotel in price with better amenities (in my case)...

I do not think I will be back to the states @richatvns, but never say never!

Haha! I have not ever tried those either, but never say never lol.

Hahaha Thats the New years resolution maybe

the hotels sure make it easier to move around. And hostels can be a lot of fun!!

Yes, with my lifestyle I need to be able to move quickly! I did not think I would like hostels and now I love them. I should have tried them sooner.

My brother, who is now over 70, has been hosteling all his life with his family. My husband wouldn't go for it but I do :)

I think it is better overseas than in the us. I looked into it once in SD and did not find anything appealing. Here, they are often 9/10 on booking dot com, which is good enough for me. Especially for under $10 per night lol.

Most of the one in SD are for foreigners only. And hosteling is not as big here as in Europe for sure.

howdy today fitinfun! This is such an unusual, even bizarre way of life for some of us so it's very interesting to learn about, great choice for the free write!

Thank you for the compliment, @janton. You sound like my brother who has never left home since adulthood. He did not like to move, and so he does not. I choose the other path as you know lol.

howdy again fitinfun! lol. well, I've traveled all over most of the United States and I've lived in many different states but now I just want to stay where I am. Have you gotten where you could just stay put yet?
