Freewrite Day 597 Rush to Judgment
The rush to judgment is something I know all about from my work in Accounting. You cannot have a rush to judgment in that job. Your first take on something may not be the way it really is, and often it is not.
I first saw this as a young bookkeeper when I worked for many different places in the early 1980’s. Often remote locations would all be doing the same thing, but all be doing it in different ways. Why? No one knew, but often the people out at the sites were assumed to be idiots since they could not get with the program. “Maybe they should all be fired,” thought the headquarters management.
I learned early to do everything I could to get out to the sites and see what as going on in person. Very often, the “stupid” thing those site people were doing had a very good reason when you went to look.
Thus started my many trips to many sites over the course of my career. If you can not see it, you have no idea why people do what they do.
“You can’t know what you don’t know.”
One of my first bosses lived by this phrase. I liked it and used it often.
I do this is real life too. You might see someone doing something that seems crazy or wrong, but you have no idea what is driving them until you look or ask.
I try hard not to judge people at all if I can help it.

I’m not much for poetry, but I have this in my head a lot. I studied Early American Literature in College at the same time I was working as a bookkeeper and this was synergy most people think is not there with a liberal arts course.

It's only Sunday, and already I have half a dozen freewrites I'd love to nominate for Friday Favorites. Clearly, I need to slow down. Or create a Carol's Favorites. :) Or join the @curie team next time there's an opening.
Haha! Esteem also has a 1 month program for curators to dip their toe in. Check their discord and give it try one of these months. You would be great at it :)
I'm the same way with the favs. I try to cut down my list and sometimes I can't. @mariannewest is my hero for getting this going. I had a place to recommend people with less than 500 sp recently and found 6 freewriters on the first post I looked at! All great writers, and all posting regularly.
Sometimes I go too far though - giving everyone the benefit of the doubt when I really should be running away fast!

To be honest I seldom wonder why people do what they do or find it wrong or crazy.

It is hard to not judge others by our own standards. We don’t know what demons they are fighting.
@fitinfun I am the one people wonder why I do the things I do because they do not understand my way of life and how hard it is to work with nature. They think that because I am my own boss I can take days off whenever I wish. When in fact I have many days the weather is bad and days fishing is good and I have to take advantage of it. Good free write.
