Communication is an important skill!

When we were little kids we used to play telephone-telephone. We took a long piece of string, and connected it to two tins. One of us sat in the one corner, while the other sat around another corner of the house. We talked like that for hours, and we had lots of fun.

There were always quite a few kids from the area that came to play with us at my grandmother's house. Her house was the local get together and we always enjoyed ourselves. We had a gang and everything!

Sometimes all these kids stayed over, and we spent hours talking into the night. We knew everything about each other and we were happy. We never had any secrets and we mostly played together in peace. If there were any problems, and someone wasn't happy about something, we sat down under the nearest tree, discussed the issue, and resolved it right there and then.

In that time there were no cellphones, no internet, no computers, and we were too young to even use the phone. We knew how to solve problems, and the solution was clear to us. We TALKED to each other.

COMMUNICATION

Today, people often don't know or understand how to communicate effectively. Many things are left unsaid and unresolved, because people don't have the courage to talk to each other face to face. Technology has made communication so easy these days. You can send an email, or just send a text message and you can say what you have to say, but have you ever noticed how a message on Skype, Whats-app or email can be misinterpreted because you cannot hear the person's tone of voice?

Although it is an easy way to communicate, it is not very personal.

Because so many people are into computers these days, and kids are into games, it is very important to develop proper communication skills in other ways, so that people will learn how to interpret the way that you communicate.

Effective communication helps in resolving conflicts. On personal level, communication could help to make good relationships with others. Teenagers these days have online friends, and often find it difficult to make friends the right way. Communication helps to convey your thoughts and opinions effectively to others. Can you actually have proper relationships with people that only exist online? I think not.

I am a very straightforward  person and people often get offended because I seem very demanding. This is not the way I want to portray myself, but I am trying to work on my communication skills, however I am also guilty of just sending text messages, or voice notes to friends, just because it is easier. A telephone conversation is so much more personal, but I tend to avoid those too. The whole point I'm trying to make is that we should not put off discussions about important things and we should make a point of communicating more on a personal level.

Hope you have a lovely day!
