What if you were in a situation where you lost the most valuable of your senses?

Take a minute and imagine yourself being deaf and blind. You cannot see anything around you, or hear a single thing. Now add muteness to the scenario. You are unable to hear, to see or to talk. You just sit there, unable to communicate with anyone.

You can't read a book, or watch television.  You can't hear the birds chirping outside, or the wind rustling in the trees, you can't hear when danger is approaching, and if you could, you can't do anything to defend yourself.

You literally just sit there with your mind at war, because you have no way of getting out of this dire situation.

Sounds awful right?

The chance that you will lose all of your senses at the same time, is extremely rare, but let's say you lose ONE of your senses. I'm sure that in time you will learn how to live with it, and with proper adjustments to your lifestyle, and with proper care and rehabilitation, you can live a fairly normal life.

BUT your life has now changed forever. You can no longer do things the same way you have done it your entire life.  You have to change your whole life to adapt to this NEW situation.

You might become depressed, and miserable, because losing ONE of your senses, changes you as a person.  You are no longer the same.

Would YOU be able to rise above this?

Would you still be grateful for what you have left, instead of moping about what you have lost?

There is always someone worse off than you. Bad things happen to everyone, but it is WHAT we make of a situation, to make it the NEW normal.

How easy do we give up on things?

The second that we start struggling, we just throw our hands up in the air and we call it a day. We give up too easily. You still have all your senses, you are fortunate and blessed, but Helen Keller was not. She was born in a middle class family, and she was dealt a hand of fate. Read her story then you will also think twice about giving up.

Helen Keller was born with both her senses in tact. At the age of 19 months, she became ill and after surviving a terrible fever, she was left both blind, and deaf. She was frustrated and miserable until a teacher put in effort to teach her sign language.  It took 25 years, for her to be able to communicate properly so that people could understand her.

She NEVER gave up. She went on and achieved more that what some of us achieve in a lifetime.

With the little we have, we can achieve so much. Money is not important, because you can't take it with you when you die, but instead of money, what can you leave behind for people to remember you?

Do you want people to remember you as someone that just gave up on life?

Helen Keller should be an inspiration to us all. If you want to read more about her, please follow this link.

Helen Keller was such an amazing story. It is true that we need to find that silver lining or else the dark clouds will eventually win out.
