The lake house - Part 4

Chris and his crew worked daily to get the lake house finished. Kathy did a surprise visit after a week, and she was astonished by the transformation. The eerie feeling she had, subsided once she saw the new inside of the house. Even with the lost time, it seemed as if the house might be finished in a few weeks. The new open plan kitchen was extremely effective and the new front door changed the whole look of the house. 

Chris had his own few ideas and invited her to lunch to discuss the finer details. He wanted to install an outside shower and entertainment area, which would bring up the value of the house. 

He still thought that it would be difficult to sell, due to the unforeseen circumstances, but the more value they could add to the house, the easier it would be to find a buyer.  

Kathy liked his ideas and approved it.  She trusted Chris, and she knew that he would never dare to do anything to cause any distrust. 

Just after four he dropped Kathy off at her place. She smiled when she saw the car in the driveway. Chris was very curious who it was, but she didn't tell him anything. She just thanked him, and promised that she would see him in a few days. 

Chris knew that something was going when he drove away, but he couldn't put his finger on it. He knew Kathy, and he had never seen her this happy. She was always hardworking and very passionate about their work, but the last few weeks he hardly saw her.  

She used to visit the previous houses she bought on a daily basis, but this one, she didn't. She seemed to have other things on her mind, and it seemed very weird that she was so excited about this house and then her excitement just dimmed. 

Kathy walked into her house and found detective Hanson cooking in the kitchen. They have been seeing each other almost daily and they have become very close. She felt extremely safe with James, and she enjoyed his company. 

They have found out a great deal about Susan, and she already knew what she wanted to do in her memory. They were still looking for Susan's estranged husband, but he seemed to have just disappeared from the planet. He was currently the main suspect in the murder investigation, and strangely enough after Susan went missing, all her policies were paid up in advance, and he was still the main beneficiary to all her policies. Both these policies would now pay out because she was officially declared as a deceased.  

Like always Kathy and James had a great evening. They were still just friends, but Kathy definitely started to feel  a little bit more than she thought she should. James did more for her than any other man had ever before. Her previous relationships never lasted long, but for some reason she hoped that this new friendship would turn into something more. She had always believed in fate, and now believed in it even more. She was meant to meet James, and it never would have happened if it had not been for the lake house.  

Kathy spoke to Chris every day and promised that she would come out to the house as soon as she had time. She felt like a weight was lifted off her shoulders when James phoned one morning, to tell her that Susan's estranged husband had been arrested.  

They had reason to celebrate. The puzzle had been solved, and the house was nearly finished. Kathy felt that she was ready for Chris to meet James, and when she picked up the beautiful wooden bench she had made in memory of Susan, she asked James to go with her. 

The showing would be in two days, and Kathy needed all hands on deck. She had chosen lovely pieces for the showing and that morning while they got ready, James was there to help.  He loved the house, and secretly wondered if he would qualify to buy the lake house. He had never owned property before but he knew that it was a good investment.  He knew Kathy loved the house and it would be great if they could spend weekends there together.  Just like Kathy he was hoping for this friendship to develop into something more, and he was going to try his utter best to make this the best relationship that she ever had.
