What would the ideal Steemit UI look like?

in #busy5 years ago

I was thinking about something that Ned said the other day in the Hard Fork 20 thread posted by @steemitblog.

If you haven't read the latest blog, then you definitely should check it out. It's a developers account that talks about how we are doing. The current post is called HF20 Update: Operations Stable

Somewhere in one of those blogs @ned talks about creating a new UI for onboarding users.

Creating a new UI.

That's a good idea because the current one really isn't all that pleasing on the eyes, nor is it easy to navigate.

So it got me thinking. What would a good UI look like?

Well, what are we using Steemit for? What should we be using it for?

In my opinion Steemit will really thrive if it is an easy to use social media platform that's completely based around the Dapps.

I came up with a design that I think looks pretty good, even though it's really simplistic.

I used to be a systems analyst so I have at least a little bit of experience creating stuff like this using Microsoft Access and other programs like that.

The settings button would be configurable for different Dapps. The default Dapps would be there, but you could set your home screen to show whichever ones you prefer.

Clicking on blog would take you to a screen from which you could either write a blog, or view something similar to what the homepage looks like now.

As far as I'm concerned we are way too interested in blogging at the moment. This platform can never survive as a simple blogging platform.

We really need to focus on becoming a social media platform. The type of thing that's fun, quick, easy to use, and incredibly appealing to the mainstream audience.

Right now I'd say we appeal to the Kindle Unlimited audience. That's a good audience to be sure, but it probably isn't the type of audience that is likely to increase the value of our coin.

We need the Facebook audience. We need the Snapchat audience.

A simple bright bold design that includes easy access to the Dapps on the frontpage, along with the ability to configure and update them on the fly.

Welcome to Steemit.

What do you think the ideal interface would look like?

Note that Dfiction exists only in my mind.

I think the ideal UI I like is busy.org interface. I don't really know why I like it, but I think it is because it has a voting that automatically upvote your post when you use it.

But I also think that it is easy to navigate like facebook.

P. S: what app did you use for your graphic design of the image?

I used GIMP but I really just drew it by hand.

OK. Thank you.

It already exists. It's called SteemPeak.

Sure it doesn't have all the dApps as individual links, or portals to them, but it sure is user friendly, packed with analytics, and has way, way more useful features as an author thatn Steemit itself currently does.

It's certainly a good interface, but until we get away from blogging we will never be able to move forward. The focus of the design of the site should not be blogging at all, although it will be a feature. It just shouldn't be the main feature. The main feature should be all of the various different Dapps that are easily accessed by the front page.
