Market Friday: Market for Chinese New Year at Amarin Plaza, ตลาดนัดปีใหม่จีนที่ อัมรินทร์พลาซ่า

This is my late #MarketFriday post, this tag is hosted by @dswigle. I have been so hectic with little time to sit still for very long. It’s still Chinese New Year’s week so I can still post these photos for the season.

Every Chinese New Year, a Chinese theme decoration and a small market of food and crafts can be found in front of the entrance of Amarin Plaza. This is a well known shopping mall next to the Hyatt Erawan Hotel in central Bangkok. This area is surrounded by big and prestigious shopping malls and five stars hotels. There’s a skywalk connecting two skytrain stations and all the shopping malls in this square mike. This is a tourists’ hot spot, within less than ten minutes from here, we can find the Central World, Isetan, Zen, Gasorn and Siam Paragon.

This year there is more pink than red and to my surprise there is a Chinese shrine of Chinese Wealth God and Good Fortune Diety for passerbys to pay respect. There is even a set of Chi Chi Sticks for people to ask about their future fortune this year. It seems that many people have been shaking these oracle sticks as the many numbered papers have been torn from the red board!

The food stalls are mainly seafood and all sort of barbecues. These food stalls have been selected for their good quality and reputation so the prices are slightly higher than usual street food stalls. There are mangos with sticky rice, roasted coconut and freshly squeezed pomegranates juice for sweets.

ปีนี้เรามีโอกาสแวะไปเดินเล่นที่อัมรินทร์พลาซ่า ก็ได้เห็นว่าเขาตกแต่งหน้าห้างได้สวยดี มีการตั้งศาลเจ้าแบบจีนให้คนได้ไหว้ขอพร และมีเซียมซีให้เสี่ยงทายด้วย เราแปลกใจมากที่มีคนแวะไปกราบไหว้ขอพรเทพเจ้าแห่งความมั่งคั่ง และเสี่ยงเซียมซีหลายคน ปีนี้ค่อนข้างเงียบเหงา มีนักท่องเที่ยวมาน้อยกว่าปีก่อน อาหารที่มาออกร้านก็เป็นเจ้าที่เขาคัดเลือกมาให้มีคุณภาพสูงกว่าร้านอาหารทั่วไป. แต่ราคาก็สูงกว่าราคาปกติด้วย อาหารส่วนใหญ่เป็นอาหารทะเลปิ้งย่าง มีผัดไทยและหมูปิ้ง ของหวานมีผลไม้ มะม่วงนํ้าดอกไม้กินกับข้าวเหนียว และนํ้าผลไม้คั้นสดๆ

นอกจากอาหารแล้วก็มีร้านขายของที่ เป็นงานทำด้วยมือ เช่นกระเป๋าหนัง งานไม้ เครื่องประดับ กับของแต่งบ้านนิดหน่อย ปีนี้ร้านที่มาออกงานน้อยลงไปมาก คนเดินก็ไม่หนาแน่น ทำให้เราอดรู้สึกสงสารคนที่มาเช่าที่ออกร้าน และลงทุนค่าวัสดุต่างๆมากมาย เราเริ่มเห็นสัญญาณของเศรษฐกิจที่กำลังชะลอตัวลง อย่างน่าใจหาย เพราะเมื่อวานไปกินข้าวเย็นกับเพื่อน ปรากฏว่ามีเราอยู่โต๊ะเดียวทั้งร้าน บรรยากาศเงียบจนเราหวั่นใจว่า อีกหกเดือนข้างหน้าจะเป็นอย่างไร
