Tree Tuesday: Bonsai garden at the temple, สวนบอนไซที่วัดริมแม่นํ้า

This is my entry for #treetuesday hosted by @old-guy-photos. These photos are taken in the special enclave full of rare plants, medicinal herbs and bonsai at the temple with big white Chedi. The temple is called Wat Prayurawongsawas.

These big bonsai trees must be at least a hundred years old. There are also smaller bonsai trees being planted on the ground for which I doubt they would survive during the rainy season. Inside this garden, there is a man-made mountain with a cave called ‘Khao Mo’. On this small mountain, rare plants could be found and some old bonsai trees have become overgrown. The mountain is surrounded by a moat; there is a plank of wood placed there as a make-shift bridge on which people walk over the moat to explore the mountain.

Khao Mo, started during the Reign of King Rama III, used to be a very popular feature among temples which were located close to palaces and considered to be under Royal Patronage. This kind of enclosure gardens with rare plants and bonsai trees used to be frequented by high society people and those connected to the palaces. Khao Mo was like a place where rich and famous people were to be seen in the old days. Now it’s the exclusive restaurants and special clubs in Bangkok are where all the rich and big names can be found and have to be seen!

ตอนที่เราไปเที่ยววัดประยุรวงศาวาสที่อยู่ริทแม่นํ้าเจ้าพระยา นอกจากได้ชมภายในเจดีย์สีขาวที่บูรณะเสร็จเรียบร้อยแล้ว. เรายังได้เดินไปเจอ’เขามอ’ ซึ่งเป็นสวนที่สร้างขึ้นเลียนแบบธรรมชาติ มีภูเขาจำลองล้อมรอบไปด้วยทะเลสาปเล็กๆ บนเขามอมีวัดจำลองและถํ้าจำลองด้วย ในสวนนี้มีต้นไม้หายาก สมุนไพรโบราณ และต้นบอนไซมากมาย โดยบางต้นมีอายุมากกว่าร้อยปี ส่วนต้นที่ยังเล็กยังอยู่ในกระถางบ้าง บางต้นก็ถูกปลูกลงดิน เราก็ไม่แน่ใจว่าพวกนี้จะรอดจากหน้าฝนหรือไม่

เขามอนี่ เป็นที่นิยมมากใน สมัยรัชกาลที่3 วัดหลวงกลายแห่งมีการสร้างเขามอ และตกแต่งด้วยบอนไซ ซึ่งกลายเป็นสถานที่ ที่บรรดาเจ้านาย และคหบดี ตลอดจนผู้มีอันจะกินในสังคมจะมาเดินเล่นพักผ่อน คล้ายกับ ผู้ดีอังกฤษไปเดินเล่นในสวนเคนซิงตันที่ลอนดอนในสมัยวิคตอเรีย ปัจจุบันคนไฮโซและคนชั้นสูงจะไปเจอกันตามห้องอาหารหรูสุดแพง และตามคลับที่ค่อนข้างเอ็กคลูกซีฟ ที่มีราคาค่าสมาชิกแพงมาก แต่เราคิดว่าไปเดินเล่นในสวนและ เขามอมีผลดีต่อสุขภาพมากมาย
