Wat Pho's festival at night with traditional Thai music, งานวัดโพธิ์ตอนกลางคืนและเพลงไทยเดิม

This post is a continuation on Wat Pho or the Temple of the Reclining Buddha, you could see photos of the Reclining Buddha in the previous post of Wat Pho This time I am showing you the evening atmosphere of the festival and a short clip of very traditional Thai music.

The temple festival attracted lots of people including tourists who wandered around looking at the various Halls and Buddha images. The weather was quite pleasant for November and there was no chance of rains to spoil the festival. The various coloured spot-lights shining onto the temple and pagodas made the whole area very beautiful at night. The temple is now 230 years old and I hope that it will last at least another 500 years. The stone sculptures by the door were imported from China; they were used as ballasts on the empty ships sailing back from China. The Western looking stone guardians were modeled on Marco Polo, reflecting the artists' impression of the first Westerner to reach China.

Wat Pho was considered the first informal university in Siam as the temple has been the center for traditional Thai medicine with a large library of knowledge on Thai herbs. There used to be many Thai herbs planted in the temple around the 'Khao Mor' or Model Hill, and 80 Yoga posture sculpture made from earth. Nowadays there are only 24 Yoga sculptures made from mixed metals. King Rama III ordered the creation of twenty-four 'Khao Mor' or Model Hills around the temple as a place for planting medicinal plants and placing all the various Yoga posture sculptures. Inscription of medicinal texts could be found inside the temple where people could go to learn traditional Thai massage.

วันนี้เป็นการเล่าเรื่ิงของวัดโพธิ์ต่อในด้่นบรรยากาศตอนกลางคืนของงานสมโภชน์ครบรอบ 230ปี ของทางวัด และมีคลิปดนตรีไทยเดิมในตอนท้าย บรรยากาศสบายๆในตอนคํ่า มีคนเริ่มมาหนาแน่นขึ้นเรื่อยๆ นักท่องเที่ยวก็อยู่เที่ยวและดูการแสดงจนดึก เราได้ฟังดนตรีไทยเดิม ดูลิเกและโขนบ้าง แสงไฟหลากสีที่ส่องขึ้นไปที่พระเจดีย์และวิหาร ทำให้ภาพที่เห็นมีความสวยงามมาก ผู้คนต่างคอยถ่ายรูปพระเจดีย์ในแสงสีต่างๆ ตอนนี้วัดโพธิ์มีอายุครบ 230ปี เราก็หวังว่าวัดนี้จะอยู่ต่อไปอีกอย่างน้อย 500ปี ตุ๊กตาหินที่อยู่ตามประตูวัด เป็นรูปปั้นสลักจากหินที่คนเดินเรือใส่ไว้ที่ท้องเรือ เพื่อถ่วงเรือที่ว่างปราศจากสินค้า เพื่อแล่นกลับมาเมืองสยาม ส่วนรูปปั้นหินที่มีหน้าตาเหมือนฝรั่งนั้น เป็นการปั้นที่เอาแบบมาจากมาโค โปโล ซึ่งเป็นชาวตะวันตกคนแรกที่เดินทางไปถึงประเทสจีน นี่เป็นการสะท้อนมุมมองของคนจีนต่อชาวตะวันตกว่ามีหน้าตาอย่างไร

วัดโพธิ์เป็นเสมือนมหาวิทยาลัยแห่งแรกของสยาม ในหลวงรัชกาลที่ 1 ได้ให้มีการสร้างเขามอ รอบๆบริเวณวัดถึง 24 ลูก เพื่อปลูกพืชสมุนไพรไทย และปั้นรูปท่าต่างๆ ของโยคะ ถึง 80 ท่า ตั้งอยู่ตามเขามอ แต่โชคร้ายที่รูปปั้นทำมาจากดินเหนียว ทำให้มีรูปปั้นที่ได้ทำเป็นโลหะแล้ว เพียง 24 ท่าเท่านั้น นอกจากนี้ยังมีการบันทึกตำราการแพทย์ไทยโบราณไว้ภายในวัดด้วย วัดโพะิ์จึงกลายเป็นศูนย์กลางรวบรวมความรู้ด้านสมุนไพรไทย และการรักษาโรคแบบโบราณด้วยการนวดกดจุด ตลอดจนการทำท่าโยคะเพื่อสุขภาพมา ตั้งแต่สมัยรัชกาลที่ 1 น่าเสียดายที่รูปปั้นทำท่าโยคะสูญหายไปเกือบหมดตามกาลเวลา แต่ที่วัดโพะิ์เป็นเจ้าตำรับการนวดไทยแผนโบราณที่มีชื่อไปทั่วโลก จริงไคนไทยโบราณเล่ยโยคะมาก่อนตนสมัยนี่ถึง 200ปีทีเดียว!
