A couple of weeks ago, I saw a post by @kabir88 that shared a screenshot from a tweet he posted describing the rewards he as a stakeholder of #STEEM was able to distribute to the #STEEM community for their engagement in the ecosystem. I immediately thought that this was a great idea as I have always thought that one of the best ways to attract new users to the platform is through the other social networks that exist today. In fact, I recall the way I got involved with #STEEM and it due to a YouTube video by @marketingmonk more than a year ago. I have always wondered why this has not been done more often given the similarities in the use cases for some on these platforms. Imagine what a single user with hundreds of thousands of followers could do if they include #STEEM as one of their social media activities.

This is one of the reasons why I was excited to see @share2steem deploy a concept for which users can link their accounts to external social media accounts to post content to both simultaneously. While I have yet to try it, I think that this could provide the more established social media users a great opportunity to try a decentralized blockchain like #STEEM to diversify their social media presence and consider a more censor resistant platform to engage with their followers and communities. In addition, it would add a layer of incentives that are not available elsewhere in the traditional social media sites by providing a way to reward followers for engaging with them on their posts.

The ability to attract new users to the ecosystem has been decreasing as a result of the lower cryptocurrency prices since the beginning of the year. However, I have continually thought that the problem with the rise and fall of engagement here on STEEM was because the attraction to the ecosystem was more weighted towards the cryptocurrency aspect and the expectations of “quick riches” and less about content creation and curation via engagement. If the potential users were approach with more realistic expectations, it could foster better engagement and retention of the short term. This is why I believe that onboarding new users is the most important aspect of our future growth for the ecosystem.

Traditional social media users could be attracted given the fact that there is the potential of small rewards that can build over time. As I frequently say when talking about my interactions with traditional social media, any reward would be 100% more than what is received today on these sites. Therefore, the strategic thought process when approaching these users is that the risk/reward for said effort is attractive as the only true investment it takes is time. The effort can benefit all of the parties involved as the platform would benefit from growth and additional engagement, content creators will benefit from potential views and rewards from producing quality content, and curators could benefit from the knowledge and engagement in becoming part of the ecosystem being built today in addition to potential rewards for those efforts.

Given these thoughts, I would like to hear the opinions of the community regarding how this has been approached in the past by yourselves. How have you presented STEEM to followers from other social media platforms? Does the new STEEM web site do enough justice to attract the interest of those power users of the likes of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and others? Should we create a blitz similar to what we did for the STEEM Netcoins listing to attract more users to the ecosystem? Could we use the great Apps like @actifit or @steemmonsters to attract users with niche interest? I would really like to hear the thoughts of the community to see if there is a potential to restart the growth of attracting new users to the ecosystem to engage with us all.

However, an additional consideration would be to ensure that a proper onboarding platform is created here to support the new users that enter the ecosystem. It is imperative that a great education and tools be available for them to leverage and get off to great starts. If we lack the proper onboarding system availability, we risk to continue the trend of poor retention and engagement over time as we have seen this year. There are a couple of projects I have my eye on including @steemonboarding which seems very promising given the support they are receiving as well as the leadership behind the project. I trust that this could help create the value necessary for the platform over the short to medium term.

Its amazing how people love to engage on the centralized platforms that provide no incentive to engage but could not stick with Steemit for extended periods of time.

I think it has to do more with user interface more than the incentive.

From my own experience talking about steem, I have discovered that many find it hard to understand the concept of blockchain technology and crypto. Most of the active users of other social platforms are below 30 with little or no interest in investment. So that is why I would like dapps like steemmonster to be the face of the blockchain and for other reasons too.

Firstly, it is fun. That is the language of the masses. If it is fun then it doesn't matter if they get paid or not. We often think finance gains is the ultimate incentive but it is not and the facts are there for all to see. Platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter run on an attention economy. Likes and followers are the value these platforms give and essentially they are fun.

The ease of entry. Although to play a game like steemmonster you need to buy cards, however, this eliminates the stress of creating a free account, which is one of the fundamental problems of this platform. It's hard to get people and even money into the system. I think this should be the primary objective of steemit inc, to solves these issues.

Talking about steem is great but getting people to join is the hard part and this is as a result of some of the things I have mentioned.

Indeed, imagine seeing a Steemmonsters commercial on television showing how gaming is monetised on Steemit etc... Commercials about the 400+ dApps already developed etc... if only

If wishes were horses beggars would ride.

Hopeful we will go beyond wishful thinking and start taking the necessary steps to take this platform to where it should be

Indeed some of us without @ned kind of money are trying very hard to make this succeed!

And it will be a success because it does not depend on him alone to make the decisions to make this platform move forward. I hope to start proffering solutions and creating ideas that will move this platform forward. But first, I need to achieve my major goal for now--become a minnow.

I have done zero promotion with the exception of posting my post on instragram and stocktwits...I like your idea of doing a blitz. I do Steem has a lot of attention if the info can get out there.

👍 Working on a Steemit tool to help you do that more effortlessly & with neat new features on your instagram post!

New follower, how have I not found you until now? Saw your comment on another post today & would love to share my current project idea with you & ask for possible advice if your willing?
