Another rough week for the blockchain and cryptocurrency community as markets have continued to punish the leader bitcoin which have had correlating impacts to all cryptocurrencies out there. As we approach the incredible overall market capitalization of $100 billion, the perspective is how much it has hurt many in the space. Not just the investors and users of the blockchains but also the projects that have been using cryptocurrencies to fund themselves. While Steemit Inc. was one of the first to come out, many other are in similar positions as prices have come down which leads to the lack of funding development costs. However, #STEEM differs itself in an interesting way, engagement and community.

Despite the latest figures from @penguinpablo that demonstrate a continued downtrend in activity, #STEEM is among the top 10 blockchains in transactions. Its relative value to most in the top 50 regarding to market capitalization is superior given the amount of engagement that continues in the ecosystem despite the recent declines. We have known throughout this year that engagement and new users correlate with price so it should be no surprise that we have seen these declines. However, how can other blockchain survive if they depend on volumes to incentivize the network?

What I have been pointing out this week is that we are still not at the end of this downfall in cryptocurrency prices. Many other projects will start to run into financial problems and will even start to shutdown. This will continue the cycle of FUD we are seeing that will ultimately lead to the capitulation that will finally create a bottom. As with many new technologies and business, it will ultimately end with the survival of the fittest. In this perspective, the #STEEM community is starting to come together to provide ways to ensure a sustainable model for the ecosystem.

Despite much of the focus of the community lately being these initiatives, there also continues to be commitments from Steemian like myself to welcome and support new users into the ecosystem. The community we have was not built the first day STEEM launched; instead, it has been a journey of engagement and discovery of groups around the ecosystem. We need to ensure that new users continue to see the potential here as they could be the talent and resources needed to present fresh perspectives to the foundation of the future. This is why I remain committed to actively engaging with new users.

The following are this week’s curated #introduceyourself posts from new Steemians! Please consider providing them a visit to help them onboard and provide them with motivation towards the future:

https://steemit.com/introduceyourself/@t-lab/introducing-myself

@t-lab comes to the community in an effort to move away from other social media sites. Her introduction is a powerful demonstration of her identity and provides a great showing of the power of decentralization. I think that other centralized social media tends to forget these identity struggles that are part of life and thus have loss touch with community. That is why I think it is great to foster and support those that come from these sites.

@sm-spanish is a new community that fosters and encourages more Spanish speaking users to play and engage with @steemmonsters. I continue to see a number of new users coming into the platform because of the game and also see the growth while playing. This is encouraging to see that a project has been successful enough to bring users to the ecosystem for a DApp and not the original project. If more communities are created that raise stake to engage more users for these DApps, they should also be supported as well as the power of community continues to be an important theme here.

https://steemit.com/introduceyourself/@kszandi/introduceyourself

@kszandi aka Alexandra was an interesting and fun introduction post to read as she is young art student that is very free spirited. She enjoys being out and about and like to take pictures in addition to create art. She seems to be inspired by her experiences to post and share them. She also loves Games of Thrones so why not highlight her, right?

https://steemit.com/introduceyourself/@arknight/from-gamer-to-blogger-to-game-designer

@arknight is a young inspiring game designer that had some help from a fellow Steemian to actually translate his Spanish post to an English one as well. HIs inspiration has come from years of gaming and has taken upon himself to learn coding and also share his experiences here on STEEM as a blogger. He is also yet another user to be attracted to the @steemmonsters game! I hope he follows his goals and could potentially use his talent to develop on the blockchain in the future.

https://steemit.com/writeandearn/@writeandearn/introducing-write-and-earn-foundation-we-will-give-a-voice-to-the-voiceless

@writeandearn is a foundation created to inspire writing of those with the dreams of doing so but with the challenges that often occur when trying to succeed in doing so. They intend to act as a liaison to those in need of support to create the writers of the future. They want to recruit, train and develop content creators and use the STEEM blockchain as its platform to do so. Very encouraging to see that there is potential for this level of talent to engage and help grow the content here in the ecosystem.

I hope this to be an evolving process to the benefit of the community so please continue providing feedback to support these and all the new users coming to the platform. I am looking forward to more new users coming and engaging with the community to solidify the social aspect of the #STEEM blockchain.

Have there been any new users you have found that I can pay a visit to? How can we continue to support new users in order to manage their expectations coming to this new platform? I look forward to your thoughts and feedback in the comments below!

Interesting to see that Steem has fallen on the list at Blocktivity as well... I wonder why others have remained in the top positions.

I know that EOS is slowly growing with some DApps. Their most popular one is a betting DApps. WAX is taking digital assets from games and trading them on its platform.
