A little Story About Nigeria ...2

in #busy5 years ago (edited)

This is a continuation to the previous post: A little Story About Nigeria

  • Nigeria is presently suffering from financial crisis with huge debts and poverty in the economy with clear fingers pointing at the leaders. As of now, Nigeria owes a total of $22 billion . That can be seen from the graph below.

  • Nigeria got her independence in Oct. 1st, 1960 while it become a republic on Oct. 1st 1963 making it 58 years although the latest democratic era started in 1999.

  • Nigeria’s major source of revenue is Crude Oil, although we started with farm products being our major export. Now, there is a major problem of over-dependence on oil.

  • Nigeria is home to diverse natural resources many of which are untouched

  • Nigeria has been seen as being a corrupt nation several times in the international community. A reputation we still battle with.

  • There was once a nationwide conference in Nigeria where certain stakeholders of each tribe and region were presented to make a recommendation for the nation for the way forward. At the end of the day, recommendations were made but none was followed.

As much as this looks unattractive, Nigeria still isn't such a bad place to be. We are a fun filled people with a very active art sector that stands unrivaled in the African Sphere. There are beaches, Unique Resort Centers and many historical centers and a rich history of how we came to be. There are just so much to explore for a tourists , never it is not all rosy down here.

Its nice to someone who still believe in the Nigerian dream. The leaders cant do much for this country but the citizens can make something wonderful out of this place. Nigerian are great survivors .Just like we did in the entertainment industry.
There are a lot of other untapped area ICT may be the next crude oil in Nigeria
