If Not @ned, Who Should Be The Face Of STEEM? Steem Going Global!!!
My article yesterday stimulated a number of different conversations about the subject of @ned being the face of STEEM, Obviously, for those who read it, I do not believe it is healthy for us to move in that direction.
That said, if not @ned, then who should be the face of STEEM?
To paraphrase the subtle James Carville, "It's the apps dummy".
There are a few things happening that are really giving me even more confidence in my commitment to this ecosystem. I can see the formation of the next step starting to take place. This will really uplift this entire blockchain. At the core of this are many of the applications we use on a daily basis.
It is easy to talk about a big vision, it is something else to back it up. That is why I love those applications that keep innovating and adding. I have no problem with a scaled down application at introduction but, if it is still that way 6 months later, toss it aside. To me, that does not reflect a committed development team.
There was a post the other day that I missed by @steemhunt. I know I wrote about them yesterday afternoon and I usually do not follow the same application up. However, the announcement they had really touched upon some major things.
The main message was that they are starting a witness node and are looking for votes. In the next couple days I will write up my views on that and the experiences I had with that application and the team behind it. For now, I want to concentrate upon some of the plans they have.
One thing that caught my attention is that they experienced a 800% increase in users the last two months now topping 72K MAU. That is an impressive figure for an application that is less than 6 months old.
Even more importantly, and a view I agree with, is this:
Now it is time to focus more on creating/maintaining the Steem blockchain to become more scalable and user-friendly based on the standpoint of Steem dApps.
A lot of this has to do with the sign up process that they are taking very seriously.
They already claimed over 1,100 accounts since the Resource Credit system was implement. This is important to focus upon because they get 5,000K unique visitors from outside Steem a day. Converting them to Steemians is a prime-time goal.
Another point driven home is that @steemhunt feels that it is now time for companies to focus upon being the driver behind the growth. Individuals can only do so much. The activities of a company can provide a much greater return than that of individuals. Hence, @steemhunt is seeking to view things on a global scale.
One of the main things that needs to be done is to attract users who are not necessarily crypto-enthusiasts. @ned alluded to the same thing in one of his comments the other day. To do this, ease-of-use had to be addressed.
Here is what was said about that:
Our aim is to develop 1) a new user sign-up system that directly converts generic outside users to Steem app users, 2) a user-friendly on-boarding interface that makes it easy to understand the Steem community and token economy, and 3) pipelines that transfer them from one Steem dApp to another.

I am glad to see @steemhunt taking this initiative but they are far from the only ones.
@mcfarhat of @actifit is working on taking his application and integrating it into Fitbit. This accesses a potential market of 25M people who are using that exercise/fitness tracker on a regular basis. The application also just changed their payout system using a variety of factors which encourage more interaction by the users.
I was told of a project that is being developed which is going to reach outside the Steem ecosystem and give content creators, professional ones, the ability to access the Steem blockchain. Without going into details, from the bit of information I have, it seems like a great way to get Steem in front of some heavy hitters.
Here is another account that is loading up on the claimed accounts. @blocktrades also crossed the 1,000 level with more, I am sure being added each day.
Of course, it only makes sense since an exchange would want to be able to onboard users. What I like about this is that people who end up on an exchange tend not to be people who are just kicking tires or ended up on a Steem application through a link. If one is on @blocktrades, there is a reason for it.
These are exactly the type of people Steem needs to attract.
My point here is the face of STEEM is starting to form.

It is not any one individual but the applications that are becoming the driving force. Sometimes the best "face" to put forward is the product itself. In addition to the ones already mentioned, we have @dtube, @dlike, @busy, @steempeak, @vimm, @steemmonsters, and a host of other applications. In other words, we have a lot to offer.
Certainly, the applications will have their own teams or individuals out promoting their platforms. That is what is suppose to happen. We will get to the point, and soon I believe, where Steem is secondary. The entire blockchain concept is going to matter little to the masses.
Do you think they care about TCP/IP or SMTP? Do you think they are concerned how packets are routed or data stored? If not, why would they care about blockchain?
In my opinion, they are not going to.
What they will care about is d.tube, steemhunt, actifit, steemmonsters, busy, steempeak, and any of the other applications that captures one's fancy.
And this, I believe, is what we want to put forward.
2018 was a fine year for Steem. We saw a lot of development which is evident in many of the applications. Let us allow the true stars to shine through.

Even with look alike platforms like steemit out there, Steem has still stayed on top of its game and the different Dapp is truly helping the Ecosystem. There is still some Dapp like Steepshoot and Dlike which have gotten the necessary attention. I believe when SMT finally roll out, everything will be in place

Agree with the DApps being the key but so are we as the community! We can also move masses as we produce our content and engage with each other. We can also claim accounts for future use. Thanks to @abh12345 post yesterday, I was easily able to claim my first account. Even though it used 70% of my RC I have not been impacted in any way to transact or engage. I could envision an ecosystem where I could eventually bring friends and family into with these accounts and provide some RC delegation tonsupport their onboarding; not by promising them the riches of crypto but the gift of community! I have not been this excited for Steem since beginning whichbis great!

we don't see the price steem still working on the steemit platform
Do you know if these new accounts on apps are reflected in @arcange stats? His numbers for redfish and minnows are dismal. But are they just the people who sign up on steemit? Right now, his reports show approx 1M deadfish and 100k in live ones, but I do not know if that is the complete picture.
No, I do not believe they are reflected because they are not accounts set up per se at this moment. The applications are using their daily resource credits to reserve the accounts. Hence, they apps themselves are able to sign people up one they add that feature to their sites.
I know @actifit is looking at adding in that in the next week or so. I am sure the others will be following.
My intuition tells me the retention rate among the users who sign up via the apps will be greater since the person was actually interested in something that brought them to the app.
We will see how it all unfolds over the next 6 months.
So when these apps start adding people, will they show over there? I look at these reports weekly or so and I am wondering about this new aspect.
Steemit as a content platform has kind of reached its limit, but dApps could be the savior (and will, I guess). I am supporting quite some dApps on STEEM, but one has to admit that EOS is already a few steps ahead. I truly hope both can co-exist and be of value.
EOS and Steem are two totally different systems.
Steem is specialized while EOS is a general blockchain. There are certain things that EOS has which cater to a different audience.
Steem has the content/reward system. That is the essence of Steem and something that is continually fine tuned. All apps that end up on here tap into that core concept.
Maybe that is the biggest issue with Steem. On EOS, you can easily create a system similar to Steemit (see Trybe.one), which is also rewarding content. But then again, you can also realize all the dApps that are built on Steemit within the EOS ecosystem without the need of posting them to a network that wasn’t designed for that initially. While I do see the value of Steemit as a social network, as a developer, I am heading more towards the EOS ecosystem in the mid/long term. I am, however, curious how SMTs will work out here on Steemit as well.

Integration into existing user bases would be phenomenal for growth, although perhaps skew the platform a bit whilst the dust settled...
If fitbit users were brought on board each with a Steem account, then there would be enough of those people who would say, why not, let's try my hand at one of the other dapps that Steem offers... Maybe blogging, maybe photography, maybe review writing... The potential is kind blowing, and we just need a couple of lucky collaborations!
That is my view @bengy how things will work.
One of the biggest advantages is that if you sign up for one application, you sign up for them all. The same username and key works. Getting one into the ecosystem means there is a good chance that individual will find something else of interest.
It is here where collaboration between the applications can actually help all involved.
I agree fully... Steem is starting (and needs to) to grow beyond the original blogging platform! Not everyone writes or wants to set aside the time to write. But if it is integrated into what you are doing already... we will have a winner!
We are moving far away from Steemit and moving forward to a lot of different DAPPS. This ecosystem is moving in the same direction of EOS.
