One Steemian Making Sure The Next PewDiePie Chooses SteemsteemCreated with Sketch.

One of the reasons I am so optimistic about the future of blockchain and cryptocurrency is the fact that we are seeing open systems that spur innovation. Quite simply, the established entities are not going to be able to keep up with the pace that these ecosystems set from a technological standpoint. Innovation is about to explode across many sectors thanks to this technology.

Steem is one of my favorite ecosystems because of the people on here. I feel we have one of the more dedicated communities. This goes to the level of people making personal sacrifices for the good of the entire network. It does not take an overwhelming number of people to have this mindset for us to make an enormous difference.

Earlier this week, we were all stunned to see PewDiePie joining Dlive. This is normally something we would be mega excited about sans the fact that Dlive was part of the Steem platform at one point. For a huge YouTuber like PewDiePie to join a blockchain is a major boost to the entire industry.

Of course, it smarts some knowing what Dlive did and how that team used Steem for its own benefit. From the start, they had no intention of remaining on Steem and adding to it. Instead, they took what they could (which was around $75K if memory serves me) and split. All the while, they had the backing of the blockchain developers they are now on.

As they say, that is water under the bridge.

What this situation does show is the need for innovative progress. We are all proud of @dtube yet there are some limitations to it. Due to the expense, videos are hosted on there only for a period of time before they disappear. Video is very expensive to maintain since the file size gets so big.

At the same time, we have to give Dlive credit. They did build a good looking platform that is feature rich. It is something that enables them to snag a person of the following of PewDiePie.

So where does this leave Steem? Are we to accept that we have a hole in our platform?

Enter our own @theycallmedan.

Here is a situation where we see someone who steps up to the plate when there is something that needs attention.

In a video he put out earlier this week, Dan talks about the situation and what he plans on doing about it. Instead of sitting back, he, according to the post, is working on a solution, at great expense to himself.

For those who know Dan, he is a dedicated Steemian who sees a bright future for our platform. Being a person of obvious means, he is parlaying his success into a large stake. Fortunately, he is a whale that is determined to do all he can to push Steem to the heights we all believe it can achieve.

PewDiePie is only the first of many who are going to do the same thing. YouTube is still operating under the old model. It is vital to realize that those with the following are starting to call the shots. A move like this signifies how PewDiePie is taking control of the following. This is something that YouTube took for granted.

Dan is in the process, according to the video, of putting together a streaming application that can capture the migration of YouTubers over. There are certain things they need which cannot be provided presently on the Steem blockchain. He states this is going to cost millions which, I presume, he is either going to fund or raise himself. Either way, he gave the indication he was going to get this done.

He goes on to state that he envisions Dtube as a platform for breaking news or videos that need to get a message out quickly. For example, a video reviewing today's crypto price movements is not something that is long term sensitive. The appeal of that video is negated after a day or two.

Essentially, the vision is to have a couple different video hosting applications, depending upon the need of the creator. This makes a lot of sense to me. The key thing is that it is not competition for what is already on here but something that will benefit all who are involved, including Dtube.

I suggest everyone give the video a look. It is about 12 minutes and the pertinent part is at the 7 minutes mark.

This is the power of blockchain and cryptoeconomies. Dan's stake puts him in a position to profit handsomely from a huge appreciation in the price of STEEM. His interest is no different than a Steemian with 100 SP. Equally as important, the later's stake will benefit from what he develops.

The only reason we know this is because Dan made a video about it. I surmise this was something in the works already meaning that it was an unknown project to the rest of us. There are hundreds of these going on behind the scenes that most of us are not aware of. That is what is going to keep this ecosystem growing.

We are in the early stages. Being an early adopter means having to deal with some technical shortcomings in the beginning. YouTube of today was not this was in its first or second year. By the same token, Steem will continue to develop and expand.

I am looking forward to finding out what Dan has up his sleeve. It sounds very exciting and could provide a huge boost to this platform.

Due to the expense, videos are hosted on there only for a period of time before they disappear.

This only applies to videos uploaded to @dtube's servers that are not pinned into an IPFS node that they do not control. There are 3rd party uploaders (such as my paid upload service) that may host the videos indefinitely.

Love it!

Got people with amazing content feeling unloved and trying to get bigger names...

I'm definitely trying to grow steem and my steemit.

I'd never have one without the other.

I'm a self made person through the community. I've had some amazing friendships and then some really funny beef. Inspired the GanjaCoward and loved lost and believed.

Excited for sure! Let's see the next steps!

I think the idea of a content creator and visionary like him spearheading an idea like this is encouraging to see! I am sure the community will support this type of idea as it continues to broaden the ecosystem!

Just use $$$ and charm to get some celebrity here. Star power can really go very far. All I can do here is use my psychedelic shamanic ritual to pray for luck. Amen.
