The Convergence of TechnologiessteemCreated with Sketch.

AltaVista. Netscape.

Some of the younger users on here might not know these names. They were forerunners to some successful projects that ended up taking over the Internet. Nevertheless, they were imperative to the development of the web.

As with any technological movement, there are going to be failures. Even early projects that enjoy success are apt to being replaced by something better at a later date. This is simply how it works.

We are very early in the Web 3.0 progression. This is a process that will take the better part of the 2020s to full evolve. Fortunately, for those who are excited by this type of thing, we should see rapid advancement in the first half of that decade.

One reason for this is there is a convergence of technologies coming together at the same time. This will spur on more innovation as investment dollars grow in each of these areas. Presently, we see billions of dollars dropped in the likes of AI, blockchain, IoT, 5G, 3D printing, and robotics. Throw in a bit of Virtual Reality and you have a soup of technologies that are going to change a great deal about society

None of these is operating in a vacuum. In my view, it is imperative to understand the inter-connected nature of this. We are going to see exponential growth simply because a breakthrough in one area presents advancement in many others. We are seeing a web of technologies emerging that are basically interdependent upon each other.

Part of the challenge that most people have is they are unable to overcome the inherent human trait of linear thinking. This is something that we are conditioned with and it is very difficult to escape. It is logical to follow a thought pattern from point A to B to C and so on. However, with what I am talking about, linear things goes out the window. The straightforward is actually a bit bent.

A prime example of this is how we thinking linear about a new technology. The first thought is of replacing what is already present. For example, blockchain and cryptocurrency is going to replace banking. That is a rather easy thought process and rather logical. With the introduction of Steem and many applications on here, we can see the same idea applied to social media.

The problem is the old adage of asking people what they wanted before the advent of the car: faster horses.

Perhaps it was fairly easy to see the development of the automobile industry when the "horseless carriages" showed up. What was not so clear was the creation of the motel industry, the inter-state highway system, suburbs, and drive thru restaurants. A popular pastime in the 1950s with teenagers was something called "cruising". Do you think they saw this as a form of recreation in the 1910s?

Here is an example of how thinking needs to change. This was put together by Peter Diamandis, one of the leading futurists in the United States. It deals with how the autonomous car will disrupt things.

Notice how the second level of thinking really changes the effects of this technology. It is easy to picture the bus driver being replaced by a driverless shuttle. What is more difficult is to envision how the design of vehicles will change Will cars be specialized, moving "pods"? The "car" design we know today surely will go away.

As the open source nature of the blockchain world starts to expand, we can only imagine the applications that will appear over the next few years. Today, we are seeing version 1.0 being created. What comes in the second and third levels is most likely something out of science fiction.

The Internet is going to expand further into our lives. Ultimately, it is not something that we are going to log onto. Instead, like electricity, it will be there when we need it. The digitization of the world is upon us. Each of the technologies I mentioned are going to be tied and inter-connected to blockchains.

Please bear in mind most people are woefully unaware what is taking place. This gives those of us here a huge advantage. We are the early adopters who trudging the difficult road of technological experimentation. Our reward is for enduring the ups and downs of early experimentation.

Hang on gang, things are starting to get very interesting.

The fact that blockchain can integrate to most technologies for its trustless consensus operations is a great reason why we can be encouraged with the future of the development of many of the innovations we see today being built.

The key aspect is trust.

That is falling by the wayside very quickly on the centralized platforms.
