Why Do We Focus Upon What We Want?steemCreated with Sketch.

Steem is an open platform where anyone can post their views about any topic they like. This is part of the freedom that comes with blockchain.

That said, why do people who are very dedicated to this platform continually post about things they do not want?

There is a saying that energy flows to where our focus goes. This can be taken on multiple levels. The main point is what we focus upon tends to expand. This is one of the keys to success in life. That is why people talk about getting clear on goals. With clarity, we are able to focus our attention on that end.

Is that what is happening here?

I see a lot of people who continually post about things they do not want (I presume they do not). We see posts detailing what is wrong, how this place sucks, and how unfair Steem is.

As a side caveat, I am not talking about bringing up topics for discussion. This is part of the solution process. This is how ideas are passed around so that we can attempt to implement improvements.
Instead, I am referring to the energetic flow into negative outcomes by constantly highlighting it.

To start, what does this accomplish. Do these people not realize that people are reading what is posted on here? What are the chances a new person signs up and gets active after reading 10 posts about how unfair this place is and how the Whales do not upvote anyone but themselves?

Does this create the outcome of growth and expansion? Of course not.

Facebook is a prime example. Think for a second why most people were turned off by Facebook. Was it the data breaches? No, those became public after many turned away from it (plus they happen with most companies). How about the surveillance? Again that happens elsewhere and the extend was only recently revealed.

The reason why most people were turned off by Facebook is because it is a cesspit of negativity. People love to be mired in crap it seems. Of course, Facebook does not care since this only adds to their business model. Get people addicted to the fights, the mud-slinging, and the garbage politics and you have a large, loyal following.

To that entity, it means money.

Steem is a different animal. Yes, we can all focus upon what is wrong and post 2-3 articles a day about it. That would certainly allow each of us to get what is bothering us off our chests. Yet, in the end, do you think that would result in a vibrant ecosystem?

We would end up creating exactly what we do not want. That is how it works. It is why the law of unintended consequences are always in effect. People simply do not realize the impact their actions have.

If you listen to some of @theycallmedan's latest posts, he stated that he believes STEEM could be one of those "once in a lifetime opportunities". That is how optimistic he is about this ecosystem. Does that mean he is one to stick his head in the sand and sing Kumbaya? To the contrary. From what he posted over the last year, it appears, if there is one person who delved into the warts of Steem, it is him. I am led to believe he has a firm grasp on what is happening.

Notice how he is not out there promoting the warts for everyone to see. He is aware of them and addresses them. He is a believer in the EIP making a big difference and resolving some problems on here. We shall see. I am not so optimistic yet it appears that my view is different from most of the top Witnesses.

Over the past two years, I probably heard about half a dozen (if not more) Steemit Killers. The latest, comes from Dan Larimer himself. If I learned only this one thing in that time, it is this: the only way to kill Steem is from the inside.

In other words, we are the ones who can screw this up.

So, if you are truly one who wants to see Steem grow and thrive, stop posting about what you do not want. There are many ways to get to the end and we are not going to agree upon all of them. My opinion differs from @theycallmedan on EIP, that does not mean either of us is less committed to Steem than the other. We are both focused upon the same end.

If you feel a lot of this is off-base, question yourself. Do you want to hang out with a bunch of negative, whining people who just bitch and moan continually? Would you want to be a part of an organization that met on a daily basis for two-hours of complaining?

The answer is personal to each who ask it. One thing I will tell you is that a meeting like that will not be filled with a bunch of successful people (unless they are politicians). Successful people tend not to sit around complaining. Instead, they see issues and set out to rectify them. When you try to stop them for a bitch session, they tend to be too busy to engage in it.

In other words, they are getting stuff done.

The Internet is a mecca for trolling and negativity. Notice how you feel when you read that stuff. Is it uplifting and something that makes you want to return? I use to spend a lot of time on a blog of my favorite baseball team. No more. It turned into a total cesspit of negativity. People are posting about how things that didn't happen yet are going to turn out bad. Talk about manifesting what they do not want.

We are learning how much of our universe is energy and vibration. It is also noticeable how much fear plays into our system. It is the basis of control. This is articulated through our words (written and spoken) which further emphasize and drive home the point.

It is vital that we all ask ourselves if what we are doing on here is sabotaging what we want out of this place. Few think in these terms but it is simple marketing 101. On an open platform like this, anyone can post as a representative of the platform. This is not the case in a centralized closed system. Notice how the likes of Apple and Microsoft do not just let any employee express their views publicly. Their messages are honed and thought out.

To think about it another way, your post might be the only exposure someone gets to Steem. Are you providing the impression that is aligned with how you want things to turn out?

We are all representatives of this blockchain/ecosystem. That provides a lot of freedom but it also comes with responsibility.

Yesssss! I see so much fear, FUD etc constantly being spewed. I understand some things need to be fixed but spending so much time and energy complaining is not actually solving anything.

There's alot of people here that put their head down and get stuff done for the ecosystem even if they disagree with how some things are done. I respect that so much.

Wise words here buddy.

Do these people not realize that people are reading what is posted on here?

they do? really?

What are the chances a new person signs up and gets active after reading 10 posts about how unfair this place is and how the Whales do not upvote anyone but themselves?

this is what i commented on dans video few hours ago:
best and worst thing for steem is the community. because steem let's his users to write whatever they like. and if you look for steem online there is a good chance you will see people on steem writing how steem is dead, ninja mining, big bad whales...

Goals: I know exactly what i want. To upvote this post 100% 4 hours after you wrote it and still get an acceptable ROI for doing so verses other options / methods on steem. Hopefully the EIP gives me that. For that i will buy more. - easy!

Great and inspiring perspectives as we all need to be part of the solution! I may not agree with some of the moves but it will not deter me from believing in the potential of what this community can do so I will adapt and continue to focus on adding value to all parts of the ecosystem!

As usual, well said 👍 because of the point you are making, people should be selective in who they follow and what they read on Steemit. That way everyone can create their own experience of Steemit.

I like Twitter, because I have very carefully selected the people that I follow on that platform. This has turned it into a good source of information for me.
