HAVING a child is exciting, but can be synonymous with isolation. Reasons why today's parents see Facebook as a daily resource that accompanies them from pregnancy and for the entire growth of their children. It is in online communities that fathers and especially mothers find support, answers, suggestions and exchanges. According to the study "Why New Parents Turn to a Virtual Village", diffused by Facebook IQ, online communities work and grow thanks to the "survival mode" that parents are obliged to embrace from the first moment of their offspring. "Forget the club of readings or go to basketball," summarizes the report: having no time to cultivate sociality in person, parents cut out moments to spend on the fly on the internet, maybe to ask how to prepare a baby food or to find the cheapest diapers. So grow Groups, Marketplace and Pages, or the spaces where you can come and go H24, between a feed and a nap.

"I often have a smartphone in my hand because it's easier, and I go to social media while I'm nursing or when I fall asleep," says Diane, 34, from New York State. After the first years, the springs become different. "When I put photos of my children, it's not just to show them to the rest of the world, it's more than just keeping and sharing memories: it's wonderful to see my children grow on Facebook too", explains Gabriel, 31 years old from California. These are just some of the testimonies gathered by the Blue Social Survey on the motivations that push American parents to find themselves online.

Especially the millennial moms, which according to Babycenter today account for 83% of the total. It is precisely the mothers born between the beginning of the 80s and the mid-90s, according to the photo taken by Ipg Warehouse , the most active online: they seek new links on forums, blogs, communities and Facebook groups that replace those lost becoming mothers. Online they document, share emotions, thoughts and questions, they seek support.

There are many examples. From the breastfeeding support group for the Breastfeeding Support Group for Black Moms, Nzinga Jones, which has 45,000 members, to Inspiralized, by Ali Maffucci, which offers suggestions for creative cooking with vegetable-trit (spiralizer ). And then there is a myriad of autobiographical blogs that have become a beacon for mothers who frequent them every day in search of ideas. Like the community of Diana Blinkhorn , mother of 3 little girls and author of the blog The Gray Ruby Diaries : 10 thousand people who follow her page on Facebook in search of comfort.

Even in Italy the galaxy of mothers online has its points of reference. Mothers at work (16,500 followers), Redooc (for STEM subjects), Heart and CraftsCrafts (Marketplace) are some of the examples of the most flourishing communities. It is mainly to this audience of parents that Facebook is aimed at celebrating Mother's Day with greeting messages (visible at the top of the News Feed) and themed frames and stickers on Messenger.
