The problems with Byteball, and why no one currenctly gets their airdrop

in #byteball6 years ago (edited)

UPDATE: Network is fine again, and the Steem attestation bot is functional. Enjoy the airdrop!

When the Byteball team announced an airdrop where all Steem users would get between $10 and $160 worth of crypto each, most of us quickly downloaded a wallet and got our airdrops. Many of you might have noticed that in the last 30ish hours the Byteball network has been having a lot of issues, and it's impossible to send, receive, or confirm transactions, and the Steem verification bot is not responding as it should.

This means that people who wants the airdrop can't get it right now, and I've seen lots of people who have been frustrated. I have also seen a lot of speculation as to what the problems are, and finding information about it from official channels seemed difficult, since the team behind Byteball haven't addressed it on their Steem, Medium, Twitter, or Facebook accounts.

So, what's wrong with the Byteball network?

I did a lot of some around, and found my way into the Byteball Slack group. This is the place where the developers interact with the community, and here's what the founder and lead developer Tony Churyumoff has to say about the problems in the #announcement channel:

"Spending unconfirmed funds" is a new feature that was added to the wallet at the same time as the Steem attestation function was added, and this is what broke the network. In other words, the influx of users from the Steem blockchain was not what broke it.

As you can also see, they are working on fixing the issue. From what I understand, it's only very slow, but still functioning, so I believe that the people who are waiting to funds to get confirmed by the network will eventually get these once the problem has been solved. So if you got sent 600,000 Bytes that are stuck as unconfirmed, these will eventually allow you to claim the airdrop once everything has been fixed by the developers.

When will I get my airdrop?

No one will be able to get their airdrop until the network issue has been fixed, and there is no ETA at the moment. So you need to wait a little while. Hopefully the issue will be fixed soon, but no one can really know. If you want a heads-up when the problem is solved, let me know in the comment section, and I will notify you by a reply when the time comes.

I'd really love a notification.
Thanks for the update @valth.

You're welcome! I'll reply you again once the network is functional again ;)

Hey, here's some updates regarding the Byteball network:
Right now transactions are going as normal again, and most pending transactions have now been confirmed. It ca be used pretty much like normal at this point.

The Steem attestation bot is offline for another 5 hours in order for the network to be tested a bit more before the floodgates really open. But after 12PM CET, it should be possible to link your wallet with your Steem account again.

Thanks for sharing! Resteemed!

You're welcome! And thanks for the resteem :)

Thanks for this post, I was wondering why the Byteball blockchain/DAG was clogged for so long! Good to know that it wasn't Steemit that caused these problems :D

You're welcome! And it's good to know that we Steem users did not cause it, but it was very unfortunate to have the airdrop at the same day as they made such a big change to the wallet.

I will like to know when solved, pls. Resteemed

Thnak you for your info, I have been worried for days now even other steemians too cos we were expecting a notice from the team but we didn't get any. Can an individual join that channel you linked? @valth

I was a bit surprised that they didn't issue an official statement as well. That's honestly more concerning than some network issues in my opinion. The channel is found at https://byteball.slack.com/.

Thank you - I was so afraid that the airdrop broke byteball for good, could you please give me a heads-up once it's active again? Good luck with all.

Well, if it's broken for good, at least something else is to blame for it :P I hope it's not that serious though. It seems like the transactions are vastly delayed, so it probably just needs a few fixes.

And yes, I'll make sure to reply to you again when it's fixed :)

Awesome, thank you for the updates - AND I'm Super nervous for the gates to open again! EEEEK!

I don't think it will be a problem, the network issue was created by another feature that was added in the same update that added the Steem attestation, but that has been fixed, so I would think it is unlikely that it will go down again :)

I hope this issue will be fixed soon.

The airdrop idea to steemians woth rep higher than 30 was pretty nice.

I hope so too! Yeah, the airdrop is very nice, especially when it's not paired to a prior investment :)

Hopefully they'd be up and running very soon. Thanks for sharing.

I hope so too, @greenrun! They are probably loosing a lot of potential users with all this.

Thanks for the update.

OMG! How can they publish without any getting any tesponse from steemit. hopefully they will be up and running as normal in a few days.

What do you mean @zohaib336

hopefully they will be up and running as normal in a few days.

I hope so as well! Steemit had absolutely nothing to do with this, by the way.

Oe, so that's the problem.
There was a friend of mine who signed up byteball, he said the byteball did not respond.
Thanks for your information.
Have a good day my friend @valth

Yep, this is the problem. Hopefully it will be back to normal soon ;)

Have a good day you too!

Yes, i hope so, my friend.

It is back to normal again now, and the Steem attestation but will function again in about 5 hours. Let me know if you or your friend need the 600,000 Bytes to use the bot! ;)

Ok my friend, i tell him about it.
