Route 66: End of the legendary trail
Completed in 1926, iconic Route 66 connected Chicago and Los Angeles across the heartland of America. One of the most famous roads in the world, the Route 66, also known as the Main Street of America or the Mother Road used to cover a total of 3,9 km.
The famous East-to-West migration path brought people out west, there is no doubt that it has played great roles in many Americans lives but after many improvements, it was officially removed from the United States Highway System in 1985.
A sign at the end of the Santa Monica Pier marks the end of the legendary American highway, symbolizing that this road only ended when the sea stood in its way. The pier holds a small amusement park with a lovely old Looff carousel, surrounded by an indoor-outdoor shopping area.
It was amazing to enjoy special local atmosphere, watching fishermen while listening local artists...We ended the trip walking beachfront, heading south of the pier to the Venice Beach.
Probably the most popular roadway in the United States, Route 66 is the stuff of legend and it is surely worth a visit!
Stay awesome and Steem on!
