Surviving Cancer - The Show

As I told you all yesterday in this post, I was invited on a show to talk about surviving cancer and what that means for us as individuals.

The show was scheduled to start at 10 AM Pacific Time, but my sister, the host of the show, wanted us all to come to the green room 45 minutes before 10. I was the first and we got to talk a little. She lives in Italy and I am in San Diego and we don't talk that often.

This was the first time that we were face to face since her husband had passed away on June 30th - One day before their wedding anniversary. He was American and they had come to stay with us and get married in our town.

We had a fun little wedding party just for the family.

During the show, I felt so sad whenever Mark was mentioned. The two of them had found each other later in life and were in such harmony with each other. I don't think I have seen my sister this happy ever in her life.

They only had so few years together.

This was the first show my sister did on her own.

The Other Panelists

Lynne

Lynne had breast cancer about 10 years ago. An exam associated with the breast cancer let to the discovery of a rare lung cancer that would not have shown up in any other screening. One of her lungs was removed at the time.

As a former lawyer and teacher, she knows how to do research. That she did when faced with her diagnosis. She also had been working closely with Ken Wilbur and wrote a book about integrating the traditional treatment mentality and the more philosophical approach of the Integral School of Thought.

She also has trained as a death doula and I promptly invited her on my podcast to explore this topic further.

Sadly, in the pre-conversation, she told us that she might have cancer again.

Mike

Mike was a priest and was studying and preaching as far away as Paris, France. His voice was his tool to fulfill his vocation and to earn a livelihood.

He was diagnosed with throat cancer as a fairly young man and couldn't speak for 2 months. During that time, he did not know if he ever would speak again. He got his voice back, but it is rather raspy.

He also successfully survived prostate and skin cancer.

In our conversation, he is sharing a visualization he practiced during his healing and says he can see it as clearly now as he could then.

Here is the replay for your viewing pleasure.

Great show! I found it really interesting hearing all the different stories and perspectives. My aunt has cancer and was going through Chemotherapy for awhile. I know it's been really tough for her and my uncle. She went from hiking every week to having a hard time walking across the room. But the doctor says she's getting better and so for now they've stopped the Chemo. And my uncle told me recently that she's able to walk almost 3 miles now!

Yes!! good for her!! I couldn't even get up some days when I was on Chemo. then, I hiked Mt. Whitney LOL

Wow, that's so awesome!! I'm really hoping my aunt fully recovers and can get back to normal life.

That's good hear, its really nice to hear stories from people who survive that disease it sounds so inspiring. I have patient who has cancer. I really feel so bad for her whenever she has to undergo chemo. Whenever I talk to her she just feels so down. Sometimes its really hard to motivate her, I think she still hasn't fully accepted it because she was a very active and healthy woman and yet it still hit her. Anyway, Thanks for sharing this!
Hoping and praying that they find a cure for that I just really hate looking at people who are suffering from that.

I hope for her as well!! But you can tell her that during the treatment, I had days when I couldn't even get up. A few years later, as a gift to myself, I hiked Mt. Whitney - the tallest mountain in the continental US - it was a 21-mile hike in one day with a large elevation gain.
Wishing her all the best!!

Life is just strange like that
The C fellow is just so clueless
<3

Yes!! I want to put one thousand exclamation marks. Clueless! So maddening!!

But what drives me really crazy is that we now know that so many things we use on a daily basis do cause cancer - but people don't want to give it up because it is convenient 😡 makes me want to scream.
It is one thing if we didn't know - but another if we do and for the sake of the rich getting richer, we keep on allowing it...

Cancer is such a terrifying thing. It's good to hear from people who've fought it and won.

Thanks to all of you for sharing, including the host. I did not know about this show before, but I'll be sure to check out more episodes now.
