Dab accessories

in #cannabis6 years ago

Yesterday I was playing around with a new style of dabber that I have been seeing around. With the growing popularity of sauce, isolate, diamonds, etc. People have been having a hard time getting a nice sized dab to stay on the tip of a small metal or glass tool. Sometime this year I started seeing a couple of people making little scoops on the end of their dabbers to help get your concentrates out of those pesky little jars and onto your nail. This is my first try at making a "sauce scoop"

As you can see I left the other side as a normal dabber so you can still just as easily grab a dab of some stick-n-snap shatter or sticky crumble, but now you also have the option to scoop out some dry sift, diamonds, or terp sauce without any fancy tools or worrying about it falling off the dabber. The scoop part of the dabber had to be cut and filed down with a wet diamond saw, and then reintroduced into the flame for a final polishing. Hoping that this is a product that people will actually use, since I personally only like using metal dabbers and don't fully expect anybody else to prefer a glass utensil either.

Also I've been making more bubble caps, since this is the current popular carb cap and for good reason. A bubble cap paired with a flat-top banger gives you so much control of airflow that it really makes a difference in your dab. You can push the puddle of THC around your banger and really get a nice milky dab and at a low temperature.

For those of you that may be unfamiliar with what a carb cap does, let me give a brief explanation. Carb caps started to rise in popularity as soon as people realized that low temp dabs had more flavor. The first carb caps I remember seeing on the market were titanium and we're made to fit the classic titanium dome less nails made popular by Highly Educated (aka Task Rok). The carb cap functions for a few reasons, 1- a carb cap restricts the airflow, creating a mild vacuum inside of your banger. Physics tells us that boiling points become lower inside of a vacuum, so this by itself makes your dab last longer before dropping below its boiling point. 2- dabs tend to pool up on a flat surface like the bottom of a banger, this will create hot and cold spots and unevenly vaporize your concentrates. Being able to control the airflow allows you to push the puddle of dabs around the banger and evenly distribute heat across the whole surface of the banger.

Overall, I'm really happy to have watched the whole evolution of dabbing and the tools that developed along with this culture. We are truly innovating at such a fast rate that each year the tools we use look different. I can't wait to see where this journey in glass takes me, and I look forward to seeing the innovative tools that we use in the future of the smoking/dabbing industry.
