LÉVIS - A strong majority of Canadians are worried about the presence of cannabis-driving people on the road, according to a survey released less than a week ago on the legalization of cannabis.

Eighty-six per cent of the 3,000 Canadians surveyed by Desjardins Group are worried, according to a statement released today. In addition, 71% fear that driving under the influence of cannabis will increase as a result of legalization.

Seventy-seven percent of respondents believe that drivers have not been adequately informed about the dangers of cannabis while driving and 81% of respondents believe that law enforcement agencies are ill-equipped to deal with the situation. .

The survey was conducted last March.

"As insurers [...] we are concerned about any form of impaired driving," said Denis Dubois, President and Chief Operating Officer of Desjardins General Insurance Group.

Desjardins wants the laws to be fully enforced by the authorities.

"Cannabis and other drugs affect your ability to stay focused and alert on the road and can put your life and the lives of others at risk," said Dubois. We therefore fully support the laws against driving while driving. "

Desjardins points out that marijuana has an increasing impact on driving and results in loss of life. A recent report from the Canadian Traffic Injury Research Foundation, quoted by Desjardins, indicates that the proportion of deceased drivers who have been found to have traces of marijuana increased from 15.9% in 2000 to 20 , 9% in 2015.
