If you're like me, your firmest memory of Popeye was when he gulped down his spinach and gained super human strength, and righteous invincibility; that is exactly when he would turn the tide, and resolve the dangerous situation, which usually involved kicking the shit out of physically imposing, barrel chested Bluto, the Sexist Bully..

So where is the tie in with Weed? It's in the Spinach.

However, the History of Sailors and Cannabis goes back much, much farther.

Since Ancient times Sailors have Loved Cannabis; it's great for nausea and lack of appetite, two common symptoms of motion / sea sickness..

You see Cannabis historically comes from Africa (sativa), and India (indica), where sailors routinely traveled during the colonial days, and all the way as far back as prehistory..
