"Captain Marvel" The Upcoming Movie of 2019

in #captain6 years ago (edited)

You can’t spell “hero” without “her.” That’s the lesson to be gleaned from the empowering new trailer for “Captain Marvel,” the first solo female-superhero vehicle in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. (Jennifer Garner’s 2005 blip “Elektra” was produced by Marvel Studios before the current series started in 2008 with the first “Iron Man.“)

The Academy Award-winner Brie Larson (“Room”) steps into the title role as Carol Danvers, a pilot who literally falls from the sky and lands in a Blockbuster Video store — a signifier that the film is a 1990s-set prequel to some of Marvel’s previous movies. She has vague memories of having lived on Earth before, and with the help of the future S.H.I.E.L.D. director Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and the rookie agent Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg), she harnesses her superpowers to fight evil as Captain Marvel. Another clue this is a prequel: Nick Fury hasn’t lost his eye and donned his signature patch yet.

Jude Law can be seen briefly as Mar-Vell, Carol’s commander in Starforce, an intergalactic military outfit that trained her during her years in outer space. Other cast members include Annette Bening, Djimon Hounsou, Lee Pace, Gemma Chan (“Crazy Rich Asians”) and sci-fi supervillain-for-hire Ben Mendelsohn (“Ready Player One,” “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story”).

Directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck (“Half Nelson”), “Captain Marvel” touches down in theaters on March 8, 2019.captain-marvel.jpg
