Caricatures - underrated art

in #caricatures6 years ago

I can say that I love this kind of art. I usually see it in daily newspapers or magazines and some of them make me laugh and some of them make me think and my conclusion is that Caricaturists have wielded significant power in their pen.

Caricatures -What they are?
The way of expression, criticism of society, sarcasm, art, simplified or exaggerated way to show some characteristics? All of that ad even more, and were especially important at a time in history when the majority of the population could not read.

Caricatures can be insulting or complimentary and can serve a political purpose or be drawn solely for entertainment. Caricatures of politicians are commonly used in editorial cartoons, while caricatures of movie stars are often found in entertainment magazines.

The caricature is amongst the most prevalent and popular of all ‘art’ forms. Certainly, comic representations of the rich and famous, the wicked, and the powerful appear prominently in newspapers and magazines the world over. While these images may contain many different aims and agendas.

Love them or hate them, they are here for a long time and we have to give them a deserved art credit, because there is saying that caricatures may be one of the most populist forms of art, but as figurative drawings, they are typically just as skillful and more influential than most portrait paintings.

Couldn't agree with you more on this one @olegw. I grew up in the UK in the 80's with 'spitting image' using puppets to create giant caricature landscapes of moving satire. I can still rememeber being scared of the maggie thatcher puppet as a small child

I mean, who wouldn't be scared of that? ;-) The power of caricature to create satire is an awesome thing, which you have captured so well in this article. Great stuff :-)

Hahaaha Maggie :) There are so many nice, funny and influential caricatures around. We should
appreciate them more than we do.
Thank you for the reply :)

Caricatures are also an art, like any other. Unless you have a sharp wit, a good eye and a steady hand you can not make one.
I love them to form the same reason you listed because they are funny and I can sincerely laugh at them.
The central theme of any caricature is to over-impose some traits, and everybody has something that is special, but also funny in a way.

Thank you for a nice addition to my post.

The cartoons is a type of art that has taken more strength right now and is used mostly in magazines and newspapers to express the difficulties that are occurring in the world or as a kind of mockery. It is better to learn to accept them, because as you say, they came to stay for a long time. The world changes constantly and it is better to adapt. Thanks for sharing, regards.

Thank you for reply and a nice addition to my post :)

Steemit user @secora posts great caricatures. I like within the genre of caricature art there is lots of depth in style.

Hahaha. Bas si pogodio sa postom. Samo mi je malo krivo sto nisi nekog naseg stavio. Plenkovic i Bernardic bi ucinili dobre karikature.

Good point, from the history books the most memorable things that I remembered were caricatures drawn by the people living in that period trying to describe the situation in a funny, ironical way

Great article, upvoted and resteemed. I'm a caricaricaturist myself and I run a recurrent challenge where I draw a caricature of a writer and people should identify who the person is. It's fun because too often we don't now the face of the authors of the books we read. An example here's Virginia Woolf.

I always loved those and admired the people who can create them because you not only have to be a talented artist but also have a great imagination and creativity skills.
