History of the Jaguar E-Type Series 1
The Jaguar E-Type Series 1 was presented at the 1961 Geneva Motor Show. It was an huge success with a factory price of just $6,000. Enzo Ferrari was even rumoured to have told "the most beautiful car ever made" and still now considered as the sexiest car of the 60's, I'm rather agree...
The E-Type was produced between 1961 and 1975 in three series with technological improvements learned in racing from the D-Type. For the Series 1, the production began in 1961 to end in 1968 with 3 body styles :
- 2-door fastback coupé,
- 2-door 2+2 fastback coupé,
- 2-door roadster.
This E-Type Series 1 3.8 flat floor was bought by Jerry Lewis in November 1961. He loved to drive this car...
Specification
The body and chassis is a monocoque tub with its light weight and the aerodynamism designed by Malcolm Sayer, British aircraft engineer, the E-Type's performance was better than the XK150. This model has 3.8-liter DOHC inline six-cylinder engine with triple SU carburetors mated to ur-speed manual transmission. It can produce 265 hp and reach a top speed of 240 kmh.
